Title: Blaster - Painter A Location: Pascagoula, MS General Function: Role Overview: The Blaster - Painter A is responsible for blasting and painting components, equipment, and the interiors and exteriors of vessels. This includes using blasting equipment, spray guns, brushes, and rollers to prepare and finish surfaces. The role involves surface preparation through abrasive blasting and cleaning, mixing and applying paints, and ensuring that the final finishes meet the required specifications. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Surface Preparation: Prepares surfaces for painting by using solvents to remove grease, rust, scale, and dirt, and by using abrasive materials for blasting. Mixing Paint: Mixes batches of paint, primer, varnish, and stain according to specifications. Painting Application: Applies paint using spray guns, rollers, or brushes, ensuring even coverage and adherence to specifications. Equipment Maintenance: Properly cleans and stores equipment after use to ensure it remains in good working condition. Blasting Operations: Operates blasting equipment, adjusting valves to regulate pressure and the composition of the abrasive mixture. Directs the nozzle manually over large parts to remove scale, rust, paint, and other materials. Masking and Finishing: Masks specific areas to protect them from abrasive action or overspray. Examines finished surfaces to ensure they meet the required specifications. Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Spray Gun Proficiency: Knowledge of various types of spray guns, their applications in painting, and their maintenance. Blasting and Painting Knowledge: Understanding of different blasting materials and painting products, along with their proper application. Industry Techniques: Familiarity with industry-standard blasting and spraying techniques. Safety Practices: Strong knowledge of safety requirements related to blasting and spray painting in an industrial environment. Desirable Experience & Training: Experience: Prior experience in blasting and painting, particularly in a heavy industrial or shipbuilding environment, is preferred. Summary: This role requires a skilled individual with experience in both blasting and painting, particularly in an industrial or shipbuilding setting. The Blaster-Painter A will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying protective coatings, and ensuring that all work meets quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate should be familiar with industry-standard techniques and equipment and should be able to work independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.
