This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks which result in the efficient and effective maintenance of equipment and structures used in the collection, transportation, storage, and processing of water and wastewater. We respect the valuable resources that we are entrusted with and are committed to protecting them. POSITION DESCRIPTION ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responds to emergency callouts. Must be able to respond to District facilities within 45 minutes while on-call. Assists Maintenance Mechanic, Instrument/ Electrical Technician in maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, structural, and grounds maintenance. Performs routine building maintenance work. Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures. Enters and exits confined spaces such as underground vaults and manholes. Performs routine preventative maintenance and adjustments to equipment. Keeps maintenance and inventory records on spare parts and equipment. Performs related janitorial and housekeeping duties as required. Loads, unloads, and transports equipment and personnel in District vehicles to a variety of work sites. Maintains assigned tools and equipment. Assists other sections as needed to complete the goals of the organization. Performs other duties and special assignments which may be outside the primary areas of employment. Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate. Performs and completes maintenance work order requests. Works outside of normal schedule when required, including on-call rotation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must possess and maintain a Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable motor vehicle record. High school diploma or GED equivalent. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Maintenance Technician I (Pay range starts at $24.19) Must be able to respond to District Facilities within approximately 45 minutes while on emergency on-call. (This will be at the Treatment Plant Maintenance Lead's discretion if this duty is assigned.) Meet and maintain the physical and fitness test requirements for wearing a SCBA within 1 month of date of hire. Availability to work during non-scheduled hours when necessary. One year of experience in a related field. Maintenance Technician II (Pay range starts at $25.40) Same as Tech I, and Holds a Class 1 Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification by A.B.C. or must obtain a Class 1 Plant Maintenance Technologist Certification within one year of date of hire. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Accept directions and feedback from others and ability to respectfully provide directions. Operate a variety of power and hand tools in a successful and safe manner. Operate and monitor process standby equipment. Perform physical labor under adverse conditions. Must be able to work in conditions in which standing, walking, stooping/bending, lifting, crawling, climbing, and repetitive motion are necessary. Lift up to 50 pounds. Strong understanding of electro-mechanical concepts. Maintain accurate maintenance and inventory records. Diagnose, determine, and repair cause and effect of equipment malfunctions. Work independently on specific tasks with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment. Work with people from diverse backgrounds and points of view as part of a team. Follow through on tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstances. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Personal protective equipment Industrial machinery and equipment: pumps, motors, blowers, and power supplies Technical literature, blueprints, and operational & maintenance manuals Power and hand tools typically used in equipment maintenance Gas and electric welding equipment Motor vehicles, including snowplows and tractor-trailer rigs Gas detection monitors, fall arresters, and other safety equipment Computer software and hardware MSDS datasheets, pager, and radio SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the supervision of the Lead Maintenance Mechanic and may be supervised by the Maintenance Mechanics. SUPERVISION EXERCISED May supervise the work of maintenance workers and temporary employees in absence of Maintenance Supervisor to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, quality standards, and proper performance of maintenance work and repairs. WORK HOURS This position may work a 4-day - 10-hour schedule between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours. The employee must be able to be on 24-hour on-call rotation. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed in potentially hazardous environments (i.e. confined spaces, electrical, infectious, and mechanical hazards). Work may result in exposure to wastewater and untreated water supplies containing infectious disease agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.
