Light Horse therapeutics was founded by leading academics Brian Liau (Harvard), Ben Cravatt (Scripps) and Nathanael Gray (Stanford) with initial financial backing from Versant Ventures and Mubadala Capital.Light Horse Therapeutics is seeking a talented, motivated, and creative Principal Scientist to join the Discovery Biology group. The candidate will contribute to strategy and implementation in early discovery programs for high value, challenging oncology targets. The candidate will also have the opportunity to drive programs and contribute broadly to building an understanding of novel target biology in a dynamic start-up environment that employs cutting-edge tools in functional genomics and proteomic technologies.Job Description: Lead and contribute to early discovery strategy for high value protein targets. Includes design and development of small molecule discovery approaches, leveraging techniques from multiple disciplinesDesign, develop and execute screening funnels using cellular andor biochemical assays for discovery of small molecule inhibitors Develop approaches to understand the mechanistic biology of challenging oncology targets and employ innovative strategies to leverage these findings for assay developmentContribute to target selection and validation for the early discovery pipelineCommunicate science and strategy effectively in internal meetings and prepare written reports of data and literature analysesManage team members to accelerate discovery across multiple programs Position requires part-time benchwork responsibilities Required Qualifications:PhD in Chemical Biology, MolecularCell Biology, BiochemistryEnzymology or related field with 6+ years of biopharmaceutical industry research experienceExperience implementing small molecule screening and drug discovery strategies in early andor hit-to-lead discovery programs Experience in leading early discovery project teams from hit identification through lead optimization is requiredPractical experience developing medium to high-throughput in vitro and cell-based assaysStrong experience in mechanistic target biology research and familiarity with a multitude of drug discovery strategies (PPIs, induced proximity, etc...) is an advantagePrior experience managing direct reportsThe individual should be scientifically creative and driven by a willingness to embrace innovation and an eagerness to challenge and meet aggressive timelinesDemonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize options, anticipate challenges and accomplish goals in a fast-paced research environmentThe ability to work closely with other group members within teams is essentialWe offer a competitive total compensation package, as well as working in a supportive team environment. The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, CA is $150,000 to $210,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.
