Location and Schedule In this position you can expect to work on site at Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center (4890 Argonne Way, Denver). This position may work a variable schedule to include evenings and weekends, dependent on business needs. What You'll Do #SeeYourself: Making an impact in your community through inclusive aquatic programming at a new, state-of-the-art aquatic facility. With a staff of over 400 lifeguards across 15 indoor and 16 outdoor swimming pools, it takes a team of dedicated, diverse, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic professionals to ensure the highest-quality aquatic programs, safety, and customer service are being delivered to communities across Denver. The City and County of Denver's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is currently seeking an adept and accomplished recreation professional to join this team as an Aquatics Coordinator at the new Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center Indoor Pool. In this position, you will create, coordinate, and plan a variety of aquatic programs, classes, and activities while managing the day-to-day operations of the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center Indoor Pool, a new, modern, state-of-the-art facility which will include a leisure pool, lap pool, and two waterslides. This position will play a key role in laying the groundwork required to operate this exciting new facility in addition to developing new programs for community members. This is a great opportunity to work for a large and diverse aquatics program while promoting new and exciting aquatic opportunities to the surrounding community. The Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center, built in 2006 and located at 4890 Argonne Way, was designed to accommodate a future building expansion to include an indoor pool and other support services. The population continues to rapidly expand at one of the highest rates in Denver and the area is lacking adequate aquatic amenities. Building an indoor pool also makes good on a promise made to this community from the 2007 Elevate Denver Bond. This project includes the construction of a new natatorium and other supporting facilities including offices, dressing rooms, storage, and chemical rooms. As an Aquatics Coordinator, you will: Create, implement, and lead Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special events Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and coaching of part time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors Oversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part time staff Evaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core Team Conduct regular staff training on emergency procedures Deliver equitable, professional, and prompt customer service to community members and facility users Create and foster partnerships with community leaders, neighborhood organizations, local schools, and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities Attend regular team meetings and collaborate with other Aquatics Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, and other city agencies Attend community events and serve as a Denver Parks and Recreation ambassador to the community Perform basic regular maintenance and repair of pool equipment in partnership with Pool Maintenance Technicians Perform other related duties as assigned or requested What You'll Bring We are looking for a dedicated and passionate aquatics professional who can function effectively on a team in a fast-paced environment. Our ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills with an eye for innovation, efficiency, and safety. Additionally, our ideal candidate will possess the following: Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staff Experience scheduling and staffing pools, including knowledge of successful lifeguard recruitment strategies Exceptional interpersonal skills, including experience working with and mentoring youth Experience engaging communities in aquatics programming and implementing new programming based on community feedback The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications Required Minimum Qualifications Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of work experience instructing in an organized aquatic program involving the monitoring of pool equipment, pool chemicals and pool operations. Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement. Licensure/Certifications: Requires a Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid Certification at the time of application. Requires a Lifeguard Instructor Certification, First Aid Instructor Certification, and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification prior to completion of the probationary period.
