Job Description Perform preventive maintenance and repair of transit vehicles, mechanical equipment and support vehicles. This is a skilled level position and work is performed under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. Perform major and minor repairs of transit vehicles, mechanical equipment and support vehicles. Diagnoses problems with equipment and/or sub-systems, which may include electrical, hydraulic, engine, mechanical, drive train, brake, and/or other specialized systems in order to determine the nature of the repair needed, estimate the parts required, and/or provide information regarding the cost effectiveness of repair versus replacement. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor and major repairs of transit buses and all related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor and major repairs including overhauling of engines, transmissions, differentials and related equipment Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor and major repairs on bus climate control systems and related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor and major repairs on bus ADA system, including wheelchair lifts and ramps, wheelchair restraint systems and related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor and major repairs on bus electrical/electronic systems including battery, charging, lighting systems, power distribution systems including standard and multiplex wiring system, fare collection systems and related equipment. Perform a variety of minor equipment maintenance/repairs, including replacing lights/lenses, adding fluids, lubricating, making minor adjustments, inflating tires, and/or replacing hoses in order to ensure safe operation of equipment, minimize major repairs, and/or prevent damage to equipment, facilities and environment. Assists and works with Maintenance technicians to learn the equipment diagnosis and repair techniques. Obtains needed parts in order to facilitate maintaining/repairing equipment. Performs related work as required. Certificates/Security Clearances/Other Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification, two (2) years of related mechanical experience. Must pass related online and/or written related assessment. Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities Preferences: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B with Passenger (P) endorsement OR CDL Learner' s Permit with the Passenger (P) endorsement.. Transit bus or heavy equipment driving or mechanical experience. Heavy-duty vehicle mechanic experience including electrical systems, air conditioning experience, and public transportation experience.
