Job Description This application is for a 6-month student role from January - June 2025. Resume review begins in October 2024. Biogen's Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department is looking for a highly motivated co-op to join our bioanalytical group to support our initiatives in discovering and developing innovative therapies. This role will be part of a dynamic, inclusive, and friendly team. The co-op will apply molecular biology knowledge and experiences to expand our understanding and capabilities on qPCR based biodistribution analysis of DNA in support of innovative gene therapy programs. Position Description We are looking for a co-op to join our DMPK Department as part of the bioanalytical group. Your work will be focused on the research of DNA biodistribution assay using qPCR techniques. Major job responsibilities would include: Receive training on lab research techniques and learn how to design, execute studies, and perform data analysis. Perform animal tissue sample processing, automated DNA extraction, and 96 or 384 qPCR analysis. Assess and evaluate DNA extraction kits, including recovery from various tissue types and animal species. Optimize DNA extraction conditions and establish a robust DNA extraction protocol. Participate and contribute to innovative projects for future scientific publications. Analyze experimental data, summarize and present results at group and team meetings. Example projects may include: Project 1: DNA extraction recovery evaluation and optimization using different kits Project 2: Optimization of DNA biodistribution analysis protocol Qualifications Knowledge and hands-on experience on PCR related techniques (PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR, etc.). Knowledge and experience with DNA or RNA extraction techniques from cells, tissues, blood, or any other specimens. Experience with PCR related assay development and troubleshooting is preferred. Strong communication skills, ability to work independently, and attention to details. The candidate should be self-motivated and possess the desire to drive a project to completion. To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: Legal authorization to work in the U.S. At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date Be currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university Education Current MS or PhD students majoring in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
