Position #21861: Electrician Posting Dates: 09/18/2024 - Until Filled Location: Maintenance and Operations Hours: 8 Hours per Day, 260 Days per Year - Primarily Day with Limited Swing Shift during the School Year, Day Shift during the Summer JOB DESCRIPTION The person in this position will perform journeyman level electrical work in the maintenance and repair of school district facilities and equipment. They will install and repair electrical systems and equipment such as lighting, motors, power panels, fuse boxes, circuit breakers, controls and conduit. The person in this position will probably be assigned to swing shift after a period of familiarization with the district. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Applicant must have a minimum of two (2) years full-time experience in the past five years as a journey level Electrician in facility construction, maintenance, and/or repair. A valid Washington State electrical license with 3 years of experience; or journeyman status as an electrician with 3 years commercial/industrial electrical experience. Must demonstrate knowledge and be able to evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair electric, electrical, and mechanical equipment and machines such as switches, pumps, motors, and blowers. Must demonstrate a comprehension of electrical concepts and pertinent code. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under the headings "Essential Duties and Responsibilities," General Requirements," "Physical Demands," and "Work Environment." Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a clear driving record.?Applicants will be required to provide a current abstract of their driving record. (CMMS) Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve. The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety; read and interpret plans, construction drawings, and blueprints. Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendations. Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize to meet the district's needs and deadlines. Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed and make cost estimates for projects. Physically able to do the required work, including heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs., squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Maintain, repair, program or install lighting systems, emergency lights, switches, outlets, wall boxes, breakers, sub-panels, cables, wiring and terminal boards. Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components. Disassemble electrical and mechanical equipment; repair or replace defective or worn parts; and reassemble equipment or systems. Tests new and repaired equipment, circuits, and systems using watt meter, ammeter, or voltmeter; connect appliances and equipment to power source and install grounding leads. Measure, cut, bend and install conduit and wire for own work and in support of others. Trace out short circuits in wiring and electrical circuits. Examine, repair, adjust, clean, lubricate, and replace mechanical parts such as gears, guides, bearings, belts, rollers, and pinions. Operate machines and equipment to test moving parts; check for excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, loose parts, and to listen to sounds that would indicate trouble or help in locating causes of trouble. Keeps records on equipment repairs, including time spent, cost of parts, frequency of repair, etc. Communicate with district administrators and staff in a knowledgeable, professional, and courteous manner; provide complex instruction concerning electronic equipment in a non-technical and easily understood format. Perform other maintenance duties as required and assist other crafts as requested or assigned by the Buildings & Grounds Manager. The person in this position may be assigned to Swing shift, 2:30 to 11:00pm after a period of orientation on day shift until they are familiar with the school district and the associated electrical work. Report problem areas and safety hazards in or on school facilities. Provide assistance to and/or coordinate with other employees and trades in order to accomplish the highest possible quality and quantity of work in the least amount of time, without causing undue hardship for other craftsmen or shops. Submit finished work orders promptly; complete with all hours worked and related costs. Enters time and materials into electronic work order system. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality. Assist in the creation and implementation of a calendar-based preventative maintenance system. Generates work orders for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
