A Day in the Life: The Grooming Specialist will be responsible for providing grooming services to the animals in our care for the purpose of relieving pain and discomfort and aid in recovery or adoption. The Grooming Specialist will provide services to cats, dogs and some critters. This will include working hands on with animals that are social, unsocial, fearful, and some under sedation. These animals may be healing from serious injuries, from unsanitary conditions or other sensitive circumstances. Job Requirements : High school diploma / GED Grooming certification preferred Intermediate knowledge of grooming, animal handling, and behavior required Routinely perform needed grooming services including complete shave downs, mercy grooms, sanitary cuts, wound clipping, nail trims, ear cleaning bathing and brushing Able to assess each animal related restrictions and handling limitations before providing services and adjust grooming process to meet each individual pet's handling needs. Have complete knowledge of all cleaning and care procedures. Including proper chemicals use, handling and safety procedures. Observe all animals for signs of illness and recognize handling stress. Properly report medical or behavioral changes objectively and promptly. Follow up on reported needs to ensure they are met. Escalate concerns to management team in timely manner. Coordinate with leadership and other teams to guarantee animals receive services needed in a timely and efficient manner. Support the Animal Care & Experience department duties between grooming, including but not limited to cleaning kennels, washing dishes/ laundry, and providing enrichment. Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. This position requires continuous standing, walking, reaching and carrying animals and supplies weighing over 50 pounds. There is continuous repetitive motion of the hands, arms and legs. Good vision and hearing are required. Be able to multi task and work at a consistent fast pace throughout work day. This person works with and around others nearly all the time and will have frequent interruptions.
