Job Summary: The Senior Tool Designer is responsible for creating innovative and efficient tooling designs for manufacturing processes. This role requires extensive experience in Solidworks, a strong background in sheet metal forming, and expertise in punch press die and hydro form tooling design. Key Responsibilities: Study and interpret specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and manufacturing data to develop effective tool configurations. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to address design challenges related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, and manufacturing processes. Utilize algebraic and geometric formulas along with standard tool engineering concepts in the development of tooling. Design, develop, and deploy manufacturing tools and fixtures, ensuring they meet production requirements. Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) effectively to tool designs. Handle all New Product Introduction (NPI) phases, ensuring successful transfer to production. Plan and execute manufacturing process projects, including the creation of BOMs (Bill of Materials) and routers. Collect and analyze process data to improve tooling and manufacturing processes. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a certified journeyman tool maker. A minimum of five years of hands-on tooling experience, specifically in sheet metal forming. Proficiency in Solidworks is required; experience with similar CAD software is a plus. Strong background in punch press die design and hydro form tooling design is required. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and procedure manuals. Familiarity with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of rapid tool prototyping is a plus.
