Job Purpose MPR Department is responsible for the management of the Honda Raw material Supply System for Aluminium and Plastic as well as scrap recycling (aluminium, ferrous, magnesium). Additional Raw Material Direct sales business includes Silicon, Magnesium, Foundry Sub Material. ($820M in annual Divisional Sales). Procuring and coordinating the supply of raw materials in support of Honda of America Mfg. and its suppliers; initiate and support cost down targets. Purpose and function of position: Coordinate department activities (customer service, operating procedures, staff work supervision). Manage growth by continuously improving processes and systems to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Daily interaction with staff to ensure consistency of business activity and continued development of associates Key Accountabilities Supervise department activity: Ensure efficiency of daily department operations: Provide internal daily associate leadership. Guide buyer and staff through daily business process. Establish / maintain business process and associated systems that efficiently support the MPR operation. Ensure that daily staff activities are consistent with procedures and are working toward business plan directives. Incorporate new systems improvement strategies to ensure operating efficiencies. Perform PDCA function at each step of business and associate activity. Manage weekly department meetings (summary of project or issue, follow up action / associate direction and manage project / associate schedules). Associate development: Complete thorough analysis of associate performance based on HTA guidelines. Assign development plans that target specific areas of improvement. Communicate regularly (formally and informally) to continuously review progress. Encourage teamwork and harmonious relationships between associates. Support group strategy, budget and business plan development: Set department activities consistent with business plan and budget targets. Align business plan strategies with department operating procedures and incorporate both into associate performance objectives (measurable/achievement-based controls). Support the budget process from the sales side and/ or cost side of the business - utilizing knowledge of the past performance, future images from the customer base / Honda organizations and new ideas. Increase/ maintain profitability of department: Manage controllable income statement and balance sheet items such as sales, c.o.g.s., operating expenses, interest expense and inventory to maximize profitability while operating within HNA/HTA supply system guidelines. Manage vendor relationships: Achieve targeted QCDD performance with supply base. Foster teamwork with supply base by utilizing fair and ethical business practices. Communicate regularly to share vision of HTA/ HNA expectations and give balanced performance feedback. Develop understanding of benefits realized by both supplier and customer in relationship. Ensure good communication within the department & communicate to upper management as needed: Clear communication w/ associates including weekly department meetings, continuous and concise updates to management. Improve customer service: Utilize the marketing principle to understand, meet and exceed our customers' expectations. Communicate with management of each customer regularly to gain an understanding of challenges faced in supply chain. Other duties as assigned, which may include cross-functional responsibilities, department rotations, and/or temporary assignments and transfers.
