POSITION OVERVIEW: United Dairy Farmers is seeking a Manager, Quality Assurance Compliance at our Ice Cream Production Plant located in Norwood, OH. This position ensures the safety of all food products sold by UDF including frozen, fluid, commissary and ice. Also ensures that all fluid and frozen products manufactured by UDF conform to the products' specifications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Safety Audit Micro Micro Testing/Counts Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations relating to food safety and quality. Keeps informed of regulatory changes. Provides leadership and guidance to assure programs, policies and practices are implemented and effective to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements. In the absence of the Manager Quality Assurance and Compliance, the Director of Operations - Plant manufacturing will assume SQF Practitioner decision making responsibilities that are necessary to assure food products are safe and meet quality requirements. Supports the development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the SQF Food Safety System. Performs plant audits on a regular basis and advises plant manager, VP/GM and CEO of findings. Serves as primary company representative during all food safety/quality inspections by regulatory agencies. Partners with the Director of Product Development to refine product formulations to produce the highest possible quality while still remaining within budgetary constraints. Maintains, implements and improves existing GMP, SQF and HACCP programs. Manages and oversees the QA lab including hiring, training and evaluating all lab technicians. Heads the product recall committee. Prepares labeling for new and existing packaging in compliance with regulations. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. S.) or equivalent; or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Interpersonal Ability: Ability to effectively manage staff and relationships with plant manager, plant maintenance personnel, marketing staff and other department staff to ensure product safety and quality as well as cost effective operations. Organizational Ability: Ability to organize own workload and workload of staff so work is completed accurately and on a timely basis. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and regulatory documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of company employees including those in production, marketing, accounting, retail and executive positions. Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel and Genesis product development software. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees in the QA Lab plus a plant janitorial employee. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
