This opportunity Versar Global Solutions (VGS) is seeking an Area Supervisor to fill a full-time role based on supporting the VDOT Richmond South interstate maintenance project. The position oversees a designated area of the interstate to ensure the road is free of safety hazards and meets VDOT performance requirements. The area supervisor supervises a team of assigned highway maintenance technicians who perform general highway maintenance activities and ensures production goals are met and work order assignments are completed daily. Job Duties and Responsibilities Drives the corridor daily to identify work needs on their designated route. Key observations to identify include any roadway debris, potholes, signs leaning or knocked down, hazardous trees, Strategize and plan for work identified on route (e.g., equipment, materials, personnel, tools needed to perform work, and utilization of outsourced services when needed) Accountable for work identified and performed daily. Also accountable for timeliness of work performed via VDOT performance requirements. Responsible for accurately inputting work performed into the Work Order system and verifying work is completed to satisfaction before closing out for Roadway Supervisor review. Oversees work of assigned maintenance team members. Key duties include; Responsible for ensuring the safety of assigned team members including leading team safety initiatives and daily toolbox talks pertinent to the work being performed. communicates goals and deadlines with the team and ensures expectations are met or exceeded. Addresses and documents minor discipline problems with team members; refers more severe cases to the Manager. Displays a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail, and commitment and ensures the same from the maintenance team. Assists with the preparation of onboarding for new maintenance team members. Training team members on tools, equipment, and work methods. Assists team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments. Performance of general highway maintenance activities to include, but not limited to, the following. Cleans and grades ditches, drainage structures, highway road shoulders, and slopes. Repair work of fences, signs, litter/debris removal, and other highway maintenance activities to include emergency response. Completes landscape maintenance duties, such as tree trimming/pruning, mowing, chemical and fertilizer application, weed control, spring clean-up, and fall clean-up. Operates various mechanical equipment, including but not limited to bed edgers, commercial mowers (ztr's and possible bush hogs), blowers, dump trailers, chain saws, and line trimmers. Works and communicates with customers and VDOT personnel, providing polite, quality professional service. Responsible for the upkeep and functionality of equipment and company vehicles. Use all equipment safely, care for equipment, and notify management of needed repairs. Performs other duties as required. Required Qualifications 18+ years of age. Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation Medical Card Must be able to effectively communicate in writing and orally with managers and coworkers in English Reliable transportation to and from the Company office. Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. Regularly. Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle multiple work orders and daily activities and meet timelines. Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate assignments when appropriate. Ability to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed. Three (3) years of highway maintenance or construction experience strongly preferred Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and or/highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed. Ability to adhere to on-call rotation scheduling requirements. Obtain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certificate (company paid) Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen. Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol policy Must be authorized to work in the US. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of supervisory experience working in roadway operations, construction, utilities, or landscaping CDL A or B MOT Certified Ability to drive manual transmission Experience operating heavy equipment
