Department Information About the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) and Academic Success and Advising (ASA) at the Georgia Institute of Technology Under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE), the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) challenges students to become accomplished learners who are able to make meaningful connections among work, study, and community. We connect curricular and co-curricular offerings to support students in developing a strong foundation for success, during college and after. We do this through the efforts of our faculty, professional staff, and students. The Office of Undergraduate Education's (OUE) Academic Success & Advising (ASA) unit creates and implements a comprehensive vision around academic success at Georgia Tech. ASA brings together OUE's programs and student services that focus on advising, academic transition, tutoring, pre-graduate/pre-health advising, and first-generation & limited income student resources. The Georgia Institute of Technology seeks a Director of Undergraduate Advising Operations and Engagement to implement and maintain cross-campus advising initiatives. This individual will be a tech-savvy professional with a background in advising and administration. They will lead efforts to strategically deploy EAB Navigate as a resource to align best practices in a decentralized advising system. This opportunity will reward professionals who can bring a vision to reality by cultivating buy-in and collaboration from a variety of stakeholders. This is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director for Advising and Academic Success (ASA), a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Establishing new and maintaining existing advising tools, procedures, and resources. Conducting research, assessment, and other studies to inform advising practices. Collaborating closely with OUE leadership, the Registrars Office, Dean of Students Office, and other units on academic advising and related policies and processes. Participating in and coordinating the work of committees, task forces, and working groups as related to academic advising, retention, and other issues. Job Summary The Director of Advising Operations is responsible for the strategic planning and operational management of advising services within the institution. This leadership role involves overseeing the implementation and maintenance of advising initiatives, managing advising technology platforms, and ensuring that advising practices align with the institution's goals for student success. The Director acts as a key advisor to senior leadership on issues related to academic advising, retention, and student progression. Additionally, the Director facilitates cross-departmental collaboration to enhance student support services. This position is responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will report to executive leadership, interact with leadership, faculty, and staff, vendors and technology providers, when necessary This position will supervise: Assigned Staff Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Oversee the implementation, updates, and training for the advising technology platform, serving as the subject matter expert and primary administrator Job Duty 2 - Develop strategies to align advising practices with institutional goals, ensuring robust utilization of advising tools across departments Job Duty 3 - Utilize data analytics to monitor student progress, identify barriers to success, and inform advising practices Job Duty 4 - Strategize with various academic and administrative units to ensure cohesive advising policies and processes Job Duty 5 - Design and implement training programs for academic advisors, including onboarding, certification, and ongoing workshops Job Duty 6 - Conduct assessments and prepare reports on advising outcomes, using findings to enhance advising practices Job Duty 7 - Serve as a key member of various committees and working groups related to advising, retention, and student success initiatives Job Duty 8 - Develop student success campaigns and interventions based on data from advising platforms Job Duty 9 - Provide guidance and support to the advising community, ensuring alignment with broader student success and retention goals Job Duty 10 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience Required Experience Six to eight years of job-related experience. Experience in higher education, student services administration, student development, instructional administration, education, counseling or related field. Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in the areas of higher education, student services administration, student development, instructional administration, education, counseling or related field and five years of job-related experience. Preferred Qualifications/Skills Experience with EAB Navigate, providing training and support for advisors, administrators, and others. Leading a technology implementation and serving as the subject matter expert. Working in an academic advising leadership role. Experience in extracting, analyzing, and compiling data using student information systems. Exhibits high initiative, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. Proven background in academic advising and student support. Demonstrated ability to set operational goals from strategic plans and lead teams in achieving these goals and initiatives. Capable of anticipating next steps and executing tasks independently. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels. Excellent oral and written communication abilities. Skilled in summarizing, compiling, and interpreting student data and reports. Able to collaborate with a wide range of student support professionals and leaders to promote a more integrated approach to student retention. Experienced in managing complex, concurrent projects, with a natural ability to quickly identify obstacles and work collaboratively to find solutions. Proven success in leading high-performing, cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects. Understanding of issues facing diverse groups, including low-socioeconomic, first-generation, underrepresented students, and under-prepared individuals.
