Position Purpose : Manhattan Ice Academy is MPRD's learn-to-skate program, designed to help participants of all ages become proficient on ice. Ice skating lessons run throughout the length of the ice rink season, on Monday and Tuesday nights. The program adjusts instructors to the appropriate skill levels of the skaters enrolled. Instructors teach participants to skate according to the program standards. Job Duties Teaches the daily activities of the skating lesson program. Follows direction from MPRD supervisor, Ice Rink manager, and Skating Lessons supervisor. Regularly communicates with lesson supervisor to ensure that all organizational goals are being met. Provides excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy which reflects the mission for the Parks and Recreation Department. Able to establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with others, individually and in a team environment. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills and Additional Qualifications Knowledge of ice-skating technique, either figure or hockey. Preferred Knowledge and Skills Training or experience in Early Childhood or Elementary Education. Other Information This is not a KPERS covered position. As such, employees in this role will not work 1,000 hours (or more) per year. Applicants must pass a background check. Staff may be asked to work weekends and holidays. Ice rink is open November 9th-February 8th . Staff will be required to attend in-service training.
