Salary: Depends on Qualifications Location : Sachse, TX Job Type: FULL-TIME Job Number: 24-015 Department: PARKS & RECREATION Opening Date: 09/06/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Description Hiring Salary Range for Maintenance Technician I: $18.42 - $21.46 Per Hour Hiring Salary Range for Maintenance Technician II: $19.71 - $23.66 Per Hour Hiring Salary Range for Maintenance Technician III: $20.70 - $24.84 Per Hour Summary: Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in maintaining City parks, right of ways and medians. The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description. Examples of Duties Essential Job Functions: Responds to work orders. Inspects and maintains tools and equipment used in assigned area. Responds to emergency call outs. Mows right-of-ways, park grounds and medians. Operates a variety of equipment including mowers, tree trimmers, edger's, blowers, chainsaws, variety of hand tools, as required for assigned area. Assists other parks and recreation divisions with maintenance and repair work as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Parks Department Maintains park playgrounds, landscaping and fencing. Cleans restrooms, playground areas, athletic fields, trails, cooking areas and parking areas. Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions for assigned area. Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and methods. Knowledge of safe work methods and techniques. Skill in utilizing a variety of tools and equipment for parks, trees, playgrounds and other facility maintenance. Skill in following written and oral instructions. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Typical Qualifications Maintenance Tech I - Parks REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/GED supplemented by one (1) year general labor experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess a valid State of Texas Driver License at time of hire. NOTE: Employees hired to work in the Public Works Department will be required to obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B or higher within twelve (12) months of hire in order to continue employment. NOTE: All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and must be maintained as a condition of employment. Maintenance Tech II - Parks REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/GED supplemented by two or more years of specialized experience relevant to the area assigned (Parks Maintenance, Irrigation, Landscaping). An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess a valid State of Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class B at time of hire or career progression. OR Possess valid license or certification in one of the following: State of Texas Irrigation Technician State of Texas Licensed Irrigator Playground Safety Inspector State of Texas Pesticide Application license Backflow Protection Assembly Tester (BPAT) Maintenance Technician III - Parks REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/GED supplemented by five or more years of specialized experience relevant to the area assigned (Parks Maintenance, Irrigation, Landscaping). LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess a valid State of Texas Commercial Driver (CDL), Class B at time of hire or career progression, AND Possess a valid license/certification as one of the following: Irrigation Technician, license irrigator, playground safety inspector, pesticide application license, (BPAT) Backflow Protection Assembly Tester OR Possess a valid State of Texas Driver License at time of hire or career progression, AND Possess valid license or certification in two or more of the following: State of Texas Irrigation Technician State of Texas Licensed Irrigator Playground Safety Inspector State of Texas Pesticide Application license Backflow Protection Assembly Tester (BPAT) NOTE: All certifications and licenses must be current at time of application and must be maintained as a condition of employment. Supplemental Information Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an outdoor environment. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting. May be subject to dangerous machinery, exposure to extreme weather conditions, potential for physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. Equipment and Tools Utilized: Equipment utilized includes City vehicle, backhoe, tractors, mowers, shovels, picks, rakes, brooms, hammers, saws, drills, concrete tools and other construction and maintenance related tools and equipment. Health Insurance - The City provides health insurance four plan options for employee and dependents. Employee premiums for the HDHP- HSA plan are 100% paid by the City. The PPO plan premiums for employee coverage are $25 per month or $15 per month, depending on which one you choose. The City contributes 35% toward dependent health coverage. Dental Insurance - The City also provides employee and dependent dental insurance coverage. You have two plans to choose from. Employee premiums are 100% paid by the City for the base plan. The City contributes $50 per month toward the cost of dependent dental coverage. Short-term Disability - Paid by the City; providing up to 60% of salary for qualifying employees after the employee has been off work for 6 days. Long-term Disability - Paid by the City; providing up to 60% of salary for qualifying employees after 90-day elimination period. Life Insurance - The City provides life insurance at no cost to employees at one times the annual salary up to $50,000. Additional life insurance may be purchased for the employee and his/her dependents at a reasonable cost that varies based upon employee age. Supplemental Insurance - Supplemental insurance is available for purchase for Short-term Disability; Accident Insurance; Cancer Insurance; Heart/Stroke Insurance; and Universal Life Insurance. Retirement - (TMRS) Employee contributes 7% with funds matched 2:1 at retirement. Retire at age 60 with 5 years of creditable service; or any age with 20 years of creditable service. Deferred Compensation - Employee contributes up to 25% of his/her salary for long-term tax-deferred savings. Social Security/Medicare - Social Security is withheld from employee paychecks in the amount of 6.2%; Medicare is withheld at the rate of 1.45%. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Paid by the City. Longevity Pay - $4/month for each month of service after one full year of completed service. Incentive Pay - Varies based on approved certifications. Bilingual Pay - $25 per month for the proven ability to read, write and speak another language. Tuition Reimbursement - Up to $5,250 annually. Vacation Leave Vacation leave will be provided to all eligible employees on the first pay check following the date of hire and on the first pay check in January of each calendar year, as follows: Part-Time Employees (Regularly scheduled 20-29 hours per week) Date of Hire 30 hours 1+ years 60 hours Full-Time Employees (40 hours week/80 hours per pay period) Date of Hire 50 hours 1-4 years 100 hours 5-9 years 140 hours 10-14 years 160 hours 15+ years 200 hours Sworn Fire Employees (24-hour shifts/56 hours per week) Date of Hire 70 hours 1-4 years 140 hours 5-9 years 196 hours 10-14 years 224 hours 15+ years 280 hours Sick Leave Sick leave will be provided to all eligible employees on the first pay check following the date of hire and on the first pay check in January of each calendar year, as follows: Part-Time Employees (Regularly scheduled 20-29 hours per week) Date of Hire 10 hours 1+ years 20 hours Full-Time Employees (40 hours week/80 hours per pay period) Date of Hire 40 hours 1+ years 100 hours Sworn Fire Employees (24-hour shifts/56 hours per week) Date of Hire 56 hours 1+ years 140 hours Personal Leave - Four days per fiscal year (Four-12 hour shifts for Fire Shift Personnel). Bereavement Leave - Up to three days for the death of an immediate family member (Three-12 hour shifts for Fire Shift Personnel). Family Care Leave - Full-time regular employees employed by the City for a minimum of 12 months who need to take leave for the birth, placement or adoption of a child, to provide medical care for their child or spouse due to a serious health condition, or to provide elder care to their own parent/step-parent and/or their spouse's parent/step-parent may be eligible to request Family Care Leave. Qualified employees will receive a bank of Family Care Leave when the request is approved. This bank will be equivalent to six work weeks, or 240 hours for 40 hour per week/80 hours per pay period employees and 336 hours for Sworn Fire personnel. If an employee does not use the entire six weeks during the six months following the first day of absence, the bank will be zeroed out.
