SCHEDULE: Hours vary REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree (Athletic Trainer) Please see full job description attached JOB GOAL To specialize in the prevention, recognition, evaluation and immediate care, rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries incurred by Centennial School District interscholastic athletes under direction of the team physician as well as area physicians. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for athletic injuries in accordance with the Athletic Trainers Standing Protocol, listed below, as directed by the team physician: The school physician will supervise the athletic trainer in matters concerning the management and rehabilitation of athletically related injuries and advise on matters regarding the prevention of athletic injuries. Centennial's athletic trainers (AT) will be registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs and certified by the NATA BOC Inc. The AT will initiate emergency care for all home athletic events. If there is any question as to the nature or seriousness of any injury, the AT must notify the appropriate parties and refer the athlete for medical evaluation before allowing the athlete to return to play. The AT may use heat, cold, water, compression, sound, electricity, electromagnetic waves, massage, traditional mobilization techniques, stretching, and rehabilitative exercise treatments as soon as signs and symptoms indicate their use is proper, and under the direction of a licensed physician. The course of treatment may be changed in consultation with the patient's licensed physician. The AT may use bandaging, wrapping, taping, padding, and splinting procedures for the prevention and management of injuries as soon as sign and symptoms indicate their use is proper. The AT shall instruct the athlete in the use of crutches and/or canes when the condition necessitates their use. The AT may, at his/her discretion, return an athlete to competition after a full physical assessment is completed, unless the athlete is under the proximate care of a licensed physician. When an athlete is under the care of a licensed physician, the AT must have written documentation from that physician in order to return to practice and/or competition. Treatment records will be maintained on each athlete receiving any assessment, physical modality, or rehabilitative exercises. Progress notes and physician orders will be included in the record. These records are the property of the school, and must remain of premises at year-end. The AT will provide advice regarding basic nutrition, hygiene, and the fitting of protective equipment and padding. The AT will not release any medical or injury information to college recruiters, professional scouts, the media, or any other person/entity not specifically permitted to receive such information. 2. Organization and administration of athletic training programs and supplies Organize and set up ImPACT testing and wrestling weight certifications and be proficient in the technology required to perform these tasks. Issue and maintain team first aid kits, coolers, ice chests, and walkie- talkies. Provide guidance, as requested, in the selection of athletic training supplies and equipment. 3. Education and counseling Provide guidance to athletes, coaches, and parents in conditioning, flexibility, diet/nutrition, and other applicable areas through effective communication. Serve as mentors for student athletic trainers. Serve as a resource for information and advice regarding athletic health care. 4.
