The Estimator II will plan, coordinate, supervise and/or prepare full estimates for large, complex work and contracts. This position will also work with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to generate budgets, proposals, hard bids, etc. for commercial, industrial, and institutional HVAC and Plumbing projects. The Senior Estimator will also be responsible for review of all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness. They will perform negotiation of contract scope, buy-out of projects, and write-ups for accounting. This role will develop and implement all department standards and procedures. Job Duties and Responsibilities: •Coordinates, supervises and reviews work of assigned department personnel to ensure accuracy and completeness. •Provides technical support and/or prepares estimates as required. •Oversees weekly bid calendar and ensures timely completion of estimates. •Coordinates overall corporate estimating functions, including staff training. •Provides recommendations to Senior Vice President on what projects to bid, strategies, techniques, etc. on a weekly basis. •Participates in reviews of status of pending bids and upcoming bids with Senior Vice President on a weekly basis. •Assigns work to subordinates, directs, and reviews their assignments, and is responsible for accuracy and completeness of estimates prior to formal quotation. •Negotiates contracts, change orders, etc. as required. •Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attends pre-bid meetings, bid strategy and presentation meetings as required for projects the company has committed to bid. •Provides support to the Project Manager, as requested, for awarded contracts, including oversight of estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, procuring materials, etc. •Effectively communicates estimating issues to senior management. •Leads negotiation of contract scope and verbiage with General Contractors on successful projects. •Provides project management with "Turn-Over Meetings" to convey all information compiled during the estimating process to production. •Responsible for careful observance of corporate policies and objectives. •Responsible for hiring, discipline, performance reviews, and/or terminating based on need for estimating staff. •Responsible for monitoring and maintaining estimating software and pricing service to assure estimates are accurate and department is efficient. •Assumes additional responsibilities as directed by the Senior Vice President. Required Education/Experience: •Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience. •Ten years HVAC/Plumbing estimating experience in commercial work. Competencies: •Thorough knowledge of company procedures and estimating techniques plus industry standards, practices, and processes that impact the bid. •Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings. •Ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort. •Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimum of supervision. Incumbent has profit/loss responsibilities. •Expert level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with ability to speak clearly and persuasively. •Demonstrated group presentation skills, phone and e-mail etiquette. •Ability to use significant independent judgment. •Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills. •In-depth knowledge of estimating software with strong proficiency and/or the ability to learn, understand, and train others in the use of QuickPen Estimating Software. •Excellent mathematical and analytical skills. •Organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary. Work Environment This job operates in both an office and a field environment. Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
