Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Job no: 497450 Work type: Staff Part-time Department: Student Affairs Location: Beren Campus, 245 Lexington Avenue, NY, NY Categories: Clinical Services Position Summary: Yeshiva University Counseling Center provides individual confidential psychological and psychiatric treatment to undergraduate and graduate students in a warm and supportive setting. The psychiatrist/psychiatric nurse practitioner is a 12 month position and will work collaboratively with YU mental health counselors to coordinate the care of students with mental health needs. The purpose of the psychiatrist/psychiatric nurse practitioner is to evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with mental health concerns. Psychiatric evaluations and ongoing pharmacotherapy or medication management are the primary responsibilities. Other duties include facilitating referrals, collaborating with outside providers, participation in a chart review process, assisting with psychiatric care protocols, supervising residents, and joining team meetings, as well as possible on-call duties. Position Responsibilities: Perform psychiatric assessments, formulate treatment plans, initiate medication management and counseling patients about medication. Work collaboratively with other mental health providers at YU Counseling Center including psychiatric and psychological providers in the local community. Engage in opportunities to educate the student body on mental health issues, in collaboration with Counseling Center staff, on occasions. Participate in policy development with the directors of Counseling. Evaluate students in crisis for appropriate emergency disposition. Assist with limited consultation in emergency after-hours medication consultations. Experience & Education Background: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Doctorate of Nursing Practice or Masters of Science in Nursing from Accredited Institution. Certification as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and licensed to practice in New York State. National Board Certification from ANCCor AANP. Minimum of 3 years of experience. Psychiatrist MD or DO from an accredited medical school (or similar accredited educational program). Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New York. Skills & Competencies: Candidate must be able to perform assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow up of students presenting with mental health disorders. Case management and collaboration with Counseling Center staff and treating therapists will also be necessary. May involve some limited on-call duties. Ability to participate in Counseling Center clinical meetings and discuss case conceptualizations. Established commitment to multicultural competencies. Candidates must possess strong clinical skills and experience in handling crisis situations. Strong interpersonal skills required. Experience working with college population preferred. Able to use EMR and prescribe medication electronically.
