Position Type: Transportation Department/Bus Driver - Transportation Date Posted: 8/16/2024 Location: Transportation Department Date Available: Closing Date: Open Until Filled JOB TITLE: Bus Driver DEPARTMENT: Transportation REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt SALARY SCHEDULE: Bus Driver Salary: $18.50-$27.25/hr. depending on experience and education Benefits: Full Benefit Package including Health, Life, Dental, Vision & PTO Leave Time Hours: AM and PM Routes and assigned trips as necessary. Full paid training including CDL (if necessary). POSITION SUMMARY To provide safe and effective transportation of students or special clients, such as persons with disabilities, to and from Hillsboro R-3 School District, in a timely manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Safely transports students to and from school and/or field trips on the approved route at the approved times. Accurately records and maintains logs of bus inspections, mileage sheets, mechanical repair orders, student state count reports, and field trips in a timely fashion. Checks and reports to the supervisor any mechanical problems with the vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment. Sweeps, mops, scrubs and disinfects vehicles daily ensuring a clean, safe mode of transportation is available to students. Ensures that all children adhere to safety rules. Maintains a valid and current CDL license. Informs the Supervisor of Transportation of any vehicle violations during/outside of work that warrant a traffic ticket or may hinder the validity of CDL/Drivers license. Submits accurate reports that include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumption. Safely assists passengers in boarding and exiting transportation. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships by actively and clearly communicating with parents, students, teachers, principals and the Supervisor of Transportation. Enforces rules for behavior and procedure by ensuring order among the students for whom bus driver is responsible. Documents, clearly communicates, and follows handbook procedures for documenting general misconduct of students. Observes and is constantly alert to street signs, stop lights, activity of pedestrians outside/around the bus, and hazardous road conditions. MARGINAL DUTIES Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment. Attends workshops, trainings and observes other programs in the state to constantly improve District services. Performs additional tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation. EVALUATION AND JOB PERFORMANCE Support Staff Evaluation SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid CDL Class B License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements. Must be able to pass a yearly School Bus Physical. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. MENTAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students. Ability to observe and implement safety and security procedures. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (weather and non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (weather and non-weather); extreme heat (weather and non-weather) and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. This individual may be exposed to potentially hazardous bodily fluids.
