It is an exciting and empowering time to work at NFPA. NFPA is looking to add a Senior Accountant to the team! This role contributes to NFPA's Mission, Vision, and Strategic initiatives by supporting the accounting function and maintaining the general ledger and ensuring accurate financials are compliant with generally accepted accounting principals. Responsibilities: - Responsible for supporting the accounting function, maintaining the general ledger, and ensuring accurate financial reporting for the association and related parties. - Monitors multiple investment portfolios and performs regular reconciliation to the general ledger. - Performs various month end tasks including, but not limited to, reconciling deferred revenues, intercompany accounts, and inventory balances. - Prepares and records month-end close and adjusting journal entries. - Work with line of business owners to analyze and record accrued expenses monthly. - Full ownership of related party general ledger close and monthly financial statement preparation. - Supports the year-end external audit through schedule preparation and document gathering. - Owns the annual 1099-MISC filing process and responsible for accurate and timely filing. - Acts as vendor manager ensuring vendor records are properly vetted and maintained on a continuous basis. - Ownership of the sales tax cycle inclusive of monitoring collections and working with third party service provider to ensure returns are filed timely and accurately. - Works closely with the Accounting Manager on ad hoc projects, as needed. Requirements - Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. - Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel with the ability to maintain and sort through large sets of data (understands and knows how to use pivot tables, VLOOKUP function, etc.) - Ability to work independently and as a team player. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to communicate and navigate a remote work environment. - Takes ownership of work and is highly motivated. - Strong organizational skills and ability to adhere to deadlines. - Has prior experience with external audit procedures and inquiries. - Experience with investment portfolios a strong plus. - Experience with NetSuite a plus.
