We are an innovative team of engineers and designers that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit's module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit's legacy of excellence. Our Sr. I&C Engineers are hands on with design, mentor more junior engineers, and deliver I&C design deliverables, as well as support initial field testing of those systems, before turning over to our startup and commissioning teams. In this role you can expect to travel up to 20% of the time to lead quality testing of your designed systems to ensure designs meet contract requirements and standards, as well as troubleshooting to resolve design constraints and issues.District OverviewKiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full-service engineering consulting and design firm serving a broad range of the industrial markets. Our operations-focused engineering provides our clients with safe and efficient facilities, and it integrates our 130 years of construction experience to finish projects on time and to make sure that Nobody Gets Hurt.Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.LocationOur positions can be based our of Lenexa Kansas, Minneapolis Minnesota, or Atlanta Alpharetta Georgia or Fortworth Texas.ResponsibilitiesConduct engineering cost, feasibility and planning studies analyzing customer needs and data including researching, investigate and coordinate with other engineers, and providing recommendations to the customer.Administer contracts for instrumentation and control equipment, especially the Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).Monitor and plan for required submittal dates. Respond to questions and Requests for Interpretation (RFIs) from the construction contractor dealing with applicable instrumentation and control systems, equipment, operations, and startup. Performs intermediate calculations and solves problems using well established scientific principles. Performs instrument air consumption, voltage drop.Conducts routine technical assignments and develops small to mid-size project or proposals.Works with designers to develop engineering and design documents as needed for the project.Considers multiple solutions and makes good decisions based on good data analysis.Recognizes, troubleshoots and resolves design constraints and issues. Applies economic analysis to determine best cost solutions. Has good understanding of the complete design and has good input into ways of improving the design and lowering costs with little to no supervision.Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments.Identifies changes in the scope of work during a small project and produces design changes as needed to stay within budget and schedule. Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize person productivity.Leads quality checks of the design and engineering of a small to mid-size project to ensure accuracy.Establishes credibility in terms of technical competency. Review OEM vendor packages for technical compliance to specificationsDevelop I&C design deliverables including Instrument List, Instrument Data Sheets, IO List, Network Architecture, Loop Drawings, and Control NarrativesReview and manage I&C aspects of P&IDsQualificationsA bachelor's degree in engineering in an instrumentation controls, electrical, mechanical, chemical, physics, or equivalent engineering program from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university programAt least 8 years' experience performing engineering-related duties as outlined above. Professional Engineer license preferredExperience with control system programming and fluency in reading logic diagrams Intermediate and advanced programming experience, especially with regard to DCS andor Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming Experience in field construction, industrial, power or start-up work is desirable; Willingness to go to the field up to 20% of the time to perform testing of I&C systems and work with construction and commissioning teams on field issues.Other Requirements: Regular, reliable attendance Work productively and meet deadlines timely Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment Perform work safely and effectively.
