ContractContract-to-HireCharlotte, NC (but also willing to consider candidates in Columbus, OH)Job Description OverviewAs a Surveyor & GPS Field Support Technician at Company, you will support the Surveyor & GPS Coordinator in ensuring projects are fully supported from a survey and GPS grade control perspective. Your role will involve setting up and calibrating GPS equipment on job sites, developing GPS file content, and ensuring the proper utilization and maintenance of all survey and GPS equipment. You will be responsible for conducting accurate measurements, performing layout work, and maintaining effective communication with project teams to verify schedules and survey needs. Your role requires strong technical skills, the ability to work in varying environmental conditions, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.ResponsibilitiesEnsure projects are fully supported from a survey and GPS grade control perspective under the direction of the Surveyor & GPS Coordinator.Regularly communicate with the project team to verify schedules and related survey needs to minimize issues.Understand, read, and comprehend contract documents, plans, and specifications as they relate to layout and survey controls.Assist with maintaining accurate inventory and maintenance of all survey and GPS equipment, including rentals.Properly set up and calibrate GPS equipment on job sites.Develop GPS file content as required and set up equipment on site.Work with field teams to ensure they utilize the equipment correctly and thoroughly understand the systems.Participate actively in the proper use and maintenance of GPS equipment.Perform layout work competently and accurately as required by the project team.Conduct all measurements needed to meet survey requirements with accuracy.Utilize and maintain all necessary equipment properly.Ensure internal and external customer satisfaction in all interactions.Honor all scheduling commitments and communicate any delays with the team and clients.Conduct all work in accordance with company policies, procedures, and programs.Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic.Requirements And QualificationsDegree in surveying, engineering, or a related field is preferred.Ability to demonstrate strong computer skills utilizing various survey and GPS-related software, in addition to Microsoft Excel and other Office products.Strong computer skills, including experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center.Minimum of 3 years of experience in surveying and setting up & maintaining GPS field systems in a heavy civil construction environment, preferred.Ability to lift 50 pounds into the back of a pick-up truck.Ability to travel out of town as required, up to 50%.Ability to work approximately 50 - 55 hours per week.Valid driver's license required.Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.Working ConditionsTravel from site to site as required. The work environment will normally be an active construction site. Exposure to dust, noise, high heat, extreme cold, and rain should be expected.Use of a company credit card when jobsite travel is required.Must be physically able to perform repetitive motion and heavy lifting. Must maintain effective audio and visual discrimination and perception for successful performance of duties.Physical DemandsMust wear all employer-mandated personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety vests, and safety-toed work boots. Other PPE may be required depending on special safety concerns. All PPE will be provided by the company at no cost to the employee, except for safety boots.Must be able to hear with or without a hearing device and see clearly at least 30 feet with or without corrective lenses.Must be able to work while wearing a respirator if necessary.Must be able to alternate standing and walking on uneven terrain surfaces, such as hillsides, muddy and icy soils, and other working surfaces.Bending, squatting, and kneeling will be required frequently during a workday.Constant pushing and pulling of certain tools and materials will be required.The employee must be able to differentiate and identify colors.Must have knowledge of occupational hazards in this field and standard safety practices. Must be able to pass the 30-Hour OSHA testing and first aid - CPR requirements before starting work.Must complete and meet requirements under the physical demands of this job description through a fitness for duty examination.
