We operate in the United States and are expanding rapidly, necessitating a robust and scalable Safety Management System (SMS) to manage current and future safety risks effectively.We are seeking a highly experienced Safety Management System (SMS) Consultant to join our team on a contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and building a comprehensive Safety Management System from our existing framework. This system will be scalable across our entire fleet and company operations, ensuring adherence to industry-leading safety risk management practices, policies, and training programs. We will consider a hybrid schedule for qualified candidates.ResponsibilitiesAssisting with the design of the safety management system, tools and training across product safety, operational safety and EH&SCreating the processes and training to support company leaders and technical subject matter experts in risk or hazard assessments across a wide cross-section of product development, testing and manufacturing tasksLead focus-teams through challenging safety-related training scenariosGenerate clear and concise documentation, processes and procedures consistent with regulatory best practices to be integrated into the Pivotal Safety Management SystemTrain team members on SMS documentation to grow the safety culture within the companyManage messages up the reporting chain as well as down into working-level teamsIdentify areas of improvement in safety processes and develop plans to enact the changesDiscovering effective root cause analyses of events and incidentsCoordinate program-level activitiesDevelop standardization of safety practicesMust be adaptable, and self-startingAble to thrive in an evolving startup environmentYou will take part in SMS activities to develop, implement, and maintain an SMS across all aspects of the companyYou will help support problem-solving activities associated with assigning engineering, production, and operating UAM in a certification environmentYou will help support SMS as it applies to flight test and system test activitiesYou will take part in all four pillars of SMS, as well as Safety Culture activitiesQualificationsPossess detailed understanding of FAA Part 5 (or equivalent) and familiarity with aviation industry-specific safety regulations and compliance requirementsHave a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (Engineering or aviation safety field desired)At least 8 years of professional aviation experience (Flight or system test experience desired)At least 3 years experience in safety & risk managementExperience in FAA or military-regulated environments (121, 135, airport, test, etc.)Hands-on experience in aviation safety and risk management, internal safety communications, and data analysisvisualizationpresentationProven experience in developing and implementing Safety Management Systems, preferably in the aviation or transportation industryStrong knowledge of safety risk management principles and practicesExperience in creating and delivering safety training programsExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skillsStrong technical and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teamsCertification in safety management or a related field is preferredQualified candidates may have a combination of the required skills and experienceBonus QualificationsExperience with eVTOL or other electric aircraftKnowledge of industry standards and regulations related to safety managementMaster's degree in Safety or Risk Management or related fieldPersonal AttributesPassion for aviation and technologyProven track record of delivering resultsStrong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsStrong sense of ownership and accountabilityWillingness to take on challenging projects and push boundariesStrong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environmentAlways thinking about how to increase efficiency and improve processesStrong communication and teamwork skillsStrong work ethic and detail-oriented
