Sterling Search Partners is helping an Orlando law firm with their search for a Defense Paralegal. The Paralegal provides comprehensive support to attorneys in the preparation and management of criminal defense cases. This role involves conducting legal research, drafting documents, organizing case files, and assisting with trial preparation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of criminal law, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure.Key Responsibilities:Case Preparation:Assist in gathering and reviewing evidence, including police reports, witness statements, and other relevant documents.Prepare and organize case files, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.Draft legal documents such as motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and subpoenas.Legal Research:Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and legal precedents relevant to criminal defense cases.Summarize findings and provide recommendations to attorneys based on research.Client Interaction:Communicate with clients to gather information, schedule meetings, and provide updates on case progress.Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.Court Preparation:Assist attorneys in preparing for court appearances, including organizing exhibits, preparing witness lists, and drafting trial briefs.Attend court hearings and trials as needed, taking notes and assisting attorneys with procedural matters.Administrative Duties:Manage case calendars, deadlines, and appointments.Prepare and file documents with courts and other legal entities.Perform other administrative tasks as required, such as billing and client correspondence.Qualifications:Education:Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field.Paralegal certification from a recognized institution (e.g., NALA, NFPA) is preferred.Experience:Proven experience as a paralegal, preferably in criminal defense.Familiarity with criminal law, court procedures, and legal research methods.
