Manager Protection & Controls Engineering Position Type: Direct HirePosition Location: Overland Park, KSPosition Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 (Depending on Experience) + BonusResponsibilities: Provide leadership and direction for a small team of Engineers, Designers andor Drafters to collaboratively work with various discipline engineering teams, developing substation project design packages.Lead by example, providing mentoring to facilitate growth and development of team members.Develop and foster client relationships built on work excellence, success and integrity.Lead the Protection & Control Engineering Team in performing various engineering-related activities related to the creation of design packages, integrating client supplied standards, protection philosophies and requirements.As required, serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) in area of expertise, sealing design drawings as required.Routine interaction with internal team members as well as external facing vendors andor Clients.Development of proposals, scopes, estimates, schedules, and conceptualfeasibility studies to support awarding and execution of projects.Collaboratively work with various discipline engineering teams, working to develop project design packages.Responsible for relay protection and control engineering associated with medium to high voltage projects - 2.4kV thru 345kVPerform analysis and calculations necessary to develop protection & control design packages successfully.Create design criteria and material specifications appropriate for the designs, integrating client supplied standards and requirements.Use relay protection principles and practices for the application of microprocessor relays.Develop conceptualfeasibility studies, cost estimating, development of design drawings, material specifications, bill of materials, bid documents, relay settings, coordination studies, etc.Facilitate the development of Protection & Control drawing packages which may include:Panel Diagrams; Schematics & Wiring Diagrams; Protection Three-Line Drawings; Phasing Diagrams; Bill of Materials (BOM) and Settings Files (including SEL .rdb type files)Review vendor submittals and provide analysisfeedback.Generate reports on occasion including coordination studies.Perform work in a timely manner to meet established milestones andor deadlines.Serve as mentor to other engineers in the group.Provide engineering expertise to develop design solutions and meet client needs.Continual interaction with internal team members as well as external facing vendors andor Clients.Requirements:Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program; Higher Education is preferred.Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Kansas (Other States PE is acceptable, can work on Reciprocity)7-10 years of work experience related to Substation Design or related area required.Able to lead and mentor a small team of engineers in a collaborative, team environment.Knowledgeable on applicable codes and industry standards including the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), applicable IEEE and other Industry Standards.Familiarity with NERCFERC Reliability Standards is required.A demonstrated knowledge and level of experience associated with the development and selection of Generation, Transmission, Substation and Distribution protection schemes and settings required.Development of schematics, wiring diagrams, panel diagrams, protection three-lines, bill of materials, device setting files, etc. required.Familiarity with a wide array of protective relays, test switches, lock-out relays, RTUs, and interfacing field equipment a must including relays by SEL, ABB, GE, etc.Proficient with various software packages including AutoCAD, Mathcad, and other design tools.Working knowledge with design tools including Aspen One-Liner, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, Milsoft WindMilLightTable, WinIGS, & GroundMat desirable.Ability to grow and develop customerclient relationships through excellence in work, demonstrating successful execution of projects.Able to manage multiple projects within deadlines and established budgets.Candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and work effectively with various engineering disciplines & groups within the company, between offices.Candidate must be familiar with project management and scheduling tasks.Ability to use office administrative and collaboration software (MS Office, Teams, etc.) required.Able to work in a collaborative, multi-office, multi-discipline environment.Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings will be required.Extremely strong attention to detail and accuracy is a must.Benefits: Full Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision)401K + MatchingPTOBonusesRelocation Assistance (Applicable If Needed)
