From TVs to smartphones, and across all types of entertainment experiences, Adeia's technologies allow users to manage content and connections in a way that is smart, immersive, and personal.About the Role:Adeia is seeking a Staff Engineer, Process & Characterization to join our team developing world-class advanced semiconductor packaging solutions including hybrid bonding. You will developperform critical hybrid bonding processes, drive appropriate characterizations, and provide detailed presentations to the team. You will work closely with the engineering and portfolio development groups to promote a strong team environment, in this multi-faceted organization supporting approximately $400 million in annual revenue.Position Responsibilities:Drive metrology and failure analysis of electronic interconnect devices.Develop and perform processes in the areas of die-to-wafer bonding and wafer-to-wafer bonding.Provide reports and presentations that are accurate, thorough, and carefully thought out.Perform research on topics of interest, develop theories, and prove or disprove theories by employing appropriate characterization techniques.Assume full ownership of multiple process or characterization instruments at the Adeia Lab. Operate the tools, help other operators, schedule preventative maintenance, and oversee consumable inventory in the Adeia Lab.Use innovative approaches in engineering tasks and partner with the team to create patents in related fields when applicable.Qualifications & Experience:Ph. D. degree, or master's degree with equivalent lab or industry experience (3+ years), in materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry or closely related field.Working knowledge and experience in a variety of semiconductor processing and analysis techniques, including some of the following examples: atomic force microscopy (AFM), flip-chip bonding, etching, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP), c-mode scanning acoustic microscopy (c-SAM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), surface analysis, optical interferometry, and ellipsometry. Extensive hands-on experience in AFM or bonding is a plus.Knowledge of how mechanical systems work.Understanding of semiconductor back-end-of-line processes.Analytical and detail-oriented mindset. Should be exceptionally thorough and accurate in sample tracking, data acquisition, document reporting, and organization.Flexible mind in solving technical problems. Ability to learn new skills and tasks for analysis, assembly, or integration with depth of understanding in the constantly evolving industry environment.Highest work ethic. Compliance with rules and safety protocols.Location: This is a hybrid role in our San Jose, California headquarters. Employees are required to be in the office 3-4 days a week.
