Responsibilities: Participates in competency-based training, continuing education activities and meetings in order to maintain competence in nursing best practice. Reviews physician's orders and Medication Administration Records to ascertain that medications/treatments are administered as ordered. Notifies the DON/ADON of any exceptions, omissions or errors. Document and gives daily reports to each oncoming shift of nursing staff and the Direct Care staff. Document care administered to individuals on a daily, monthly, and annual basis. Ensures all assessments and documentation are completed by the appropriate staff for each shift. Responsible for calling in replacement staff (staff not already on the schedule or agency staff) in the event of a call off. If unable to fill the vacancy, may call the ADON/DON for assistance. Performs comprehensive physical health assessments. Responds to medical emergencies and provides care and treatment of residents in emergency situations. Will control the emergency scene in the absence of the primary care provider and makes the decision as to whether the individual should be transported to the emergency room by EMS. Maintains emergency equipment and supplies in designated area and ensures that equipment and supplies are checked daily by nursing staff. Assists with the planning, developing, coordination and evaluation of activities related to nursing function in the ICF. Educates and trains of all levels of staff members and serves as a preceptor to new nursing staff members. Assists the new nurse to complete the orientation checklist, observes and gives feedback as the new nurse performs daily assignments, plans daily learning experiences, discusses progress during orientation, and serves as a continued resource for the new nurse. Assists the DON and ADON with supervision of nursing staff, provides oversight of subordinate nursing staff. Communicates health status needs to other disciplines, including physicians, nursing staff, family members, residential and program staff as needed. Actively participates in the interdisciplinary team meetings in order to manage and coordinate health care to achieve optimal health. Attend annual staffing and I.T.R. reviews as a contributing member of the Interdisciplinary Team. Develop and implement health care plans for assigned individuals as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team Monitors and oversees others to ensure safe professional nursing practices are maintained. Participates in competency-based training, continuing education activities and meetings in order to maintain competence in nursing best practice. Provides teaching and training to staff and individuals including but not limited to medication administration, immunizations, and treatment and observation of individuals for unusual symptoms and reactions. Reviews physician's orders and Medication Administration Records to ascertain that medications/treatments are administered as ordered. Notifies the DON/ADON of any exceptions, omissions or errors. Administers and documents the prescribed medications and treatments. Acts as a resource for individuals, families and staff needing direction. Responsible for calling in replacement staff (staff not already on the schedule or agency staff) in the event of a call off. If unable to fill the vacancy, may call the ADON/DON for assistance. Perform related duties as requested. Minimum Experience and Training Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold current Pennsylvania Licensure. At least two years of experience as a practicing RN in a health agency, hospital, or related health care facility required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Charge Nurse or management experience preferred. Must maintain a valid Driver's License and complete all required clearances. Physical Requirements The ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds or less independently or over 50 pounds with the assist of one. Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping and reaching.
