Responsibilities River Park Hospital, a leading behavioral health facility located in Huntington, WV, is seeking a Recreation Therapist for our Barboursville School Location that specializes in adolescent service programs. Summary of Core Job Functions: This position will work with acute and chronically mentally ill patients within an inpatient psychiatric setting to assesss the patient's leisure and recreational habits and then provide therapeutic interventions to improve their daily functioning. The main method of intervention is group modality. Essential Core Functions: 1. Plans and implements therapeutic recreation and psycho-education services for all patients that includes physical fitness, creative expression opportunities, leisure, and general psycho-education learning activities. 2. Administers therapeutic recreational assessment. 3. Documents services and patient response in medical record. 4. Provides progress reports for treatment team meetings. 5. Contributes to the development of treatment plans. 6. Maintains age-appropriate recreation/education supplies and equipment, including purchasing supplies and materials for patient reinforcement/reward program, holiday celebrations and monthly unit birthday celebrations. 7. Attends and participates in patient treatment team meetings as part of the interdisciplinary team as directed. 8. May assist with supervising approved community outings. 9. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in a Health Services related field, Recreation and Leisure preferred. - CTRS certification preferred but not required. - Those with CTRS certification may be assigned specialized or additional responsibilities commensurate with any salary differential. - Experience may be substituted for minimum requirements as follows: A minor in a Health Services related field and a minimum of one year working in the mental health field. For those candidates with no Bachelor's degree, five years of experience working specifically as a Recreation Therapist or Mental Health Technician may be substituted. Internal candidates can substitute a MHT II with a Bachelor's Degree. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: 1. Knowledge of variety of recreational activities 2. Must possess ability and willingness to work professionally and effectively with staff, medical staff, patients, family members, administration and others. 3. Ability to complete documentation that is consistent with policy and good clinical practice.
