About the job Diesel Technician - Nationwide Diesel Mechanic Location: Multiple Locations Nationwide Description: A Diesel Mechanic, or Diesel Service Technician, inspects, diagnoses and repairs diesel-powered vehicles and machines, like trucks, forklifts and trailers. Their main duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, replacing the vehicles engine, transmission, steering mechanism or braking system and test driving the vehicle to determine if they properly fixed the maintenance issue. Primary Job Functions: Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks and replacements, filter replacements, and other preventive measures to ensure the fleet's overall health. Diagnostic Assessment: Utilize diagnostic equipment and tools to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in vehicles. Analyze error codes and symptoms to pinpoint the root causes of problems. Repair and Replacement: Repair or replace faulty components, including brakes, suspension systems, exhaust systems, electrical systems, and drivetrains. Ensure repairs are performed accurately and efficiently. Troubleshooting: Investigate and troubleshoot complex vehicle issues by analyzing symptoms, conducting tests, and researching technical manuals. Develop effective solutions to restore vehicle functionality. Warranty and Recall: Keep up to date with manufacturer recalls and warranty information. Coordinate with relevant parties to address any recalls or warranty-related repairs. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, parts used, and services performed. Enter data into electronic databases or maintenance software. Safety Compliance: Ensure that all repaired vehicles meet safety standards and regulations. Perform thorough safety checks after repairs to prevent any potential hazards. Parts Management: Order, track, and manage inventory of replacement parts and supplies. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely availability of required parts. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other technicians, lead technicians, and supervisors to share knowledge, discuss complex issues, and solve problems collectively. Training and Development: Stay updated on the latest automotive technologies, repair techniques, and industry trends through continuous learning. Attend workshops, training sessions, and certification programs as required. Quality Assurance: Maintain a high standard of workmanship and ensure that repairs and maintenance are performed to the highest quality to minimize rework and maximize vehicle reliability. Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to emergency repair requests to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness of the fleet.
