Salary/Benefits Salary and benefits per non rep schedule Benefits Eligible? n/a Profile of a Natick Educator JOB GOAL: All officially recognized varsity and sub varsity in season athletic teams at Natick High School and is available for consultation with coaches and athletes enrolled at Natick Kennedy and Wilson Middle Schools. Additionally the athletic trainer provides assessment and emergency treatment to athletes from other towns participating in interscholastic scrimmages and games at Natick High School QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's Degree or Masters from an accredited College or University. Current and valid MA Athletic Training License. Current National Athletic Trainers Association Certification. Certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Professional Certification: Specialized Knowledge: Thorough understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to student, staff and community engagement and cultivation Preferred Experience: Experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) and PowerSchool preferred, but will train the right candidate. Skills: Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues Candidates must be flexible and collaborative Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth Candidates must be organized and able to meet ongoing, time-sensitive deadlines for work production Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to) The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position. Works with district and school leadership to combat systemic barriers that limit student, family, and staff members' equitable access to opportunity he position of athletic trainer is responsible for coordinating and administering a comprehensive health care program for student athletes. Along with establishing injury prevention practices, the athletic trainer is responsible for immediate care of injured athletes and for carrying out rehabilitation under the direction of a physician. The athletic trainer serves as a liaison coordinating the efforts of doctors, school nurses, physical therapists, coaches, athletes and parents. The athletic trainer ensures that players participate only when capable and that a physician's instructions are understood and followed. Athletic Trainers must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Provide coverage at interscholastic athletic events as scheduled by the Athletic Director. Provide prognosis and treatment of athletic injuries sustained at practices and games. Assist parents with submission of insurance forms for all athletic injuries through the proper channels for payment. Provide counseling and advice to athletes and coaches regarding conditioning, rest, exercise, nutrition, and other similar health matters upon coaches' request. Communicate with and provide follow-up care and subsequent rehabilitation for athletic injuries as directed by physician(s). Directly notify Athletic Director and parents regarding any injuries that may require emergency transportation of students via ambulance to other facilities. Directly notify parent(s)/guardian(s) of any student who needs follow-up care by a physician or other medical professional. Monitor compliance of MIAA regulations and timelines regarding requirements for physical exams. Communicate compliance reports to Athletic Director and submit to school nurses for placement in permanent record. If a student is injured during a practice or athletic contest, the athletic trainer shall make the final determination as to whether a student may continue to participate. If the school has employed a physician at a contest, the athletic trainer will defer to the school- sanctioned physician on these decisions. Upon receipt of a diagnosis and recommendation made by a student's properly licensed physician, the athletic trainer will follow the guidelines and recommendations made by the student's physician. After clearance from the primary care or team physician, return to play will be determined by the athletic trainer. Keep records of all athletic injuries treated as requested by the Athletic Director. These records will be maintained in a mutually agreed format such that regular reports may be provided to the Athletic Director when requested. These summary reports will include (but are not limited to) the name of the student(s), facility/location where injury occurred, team name, name of supervising coach, date, time, and nature of injury, treatment provided, and physician's recommendation. Provide appropriate care and supervision of the athletic training room such that it will remain neat, clean, and well equipped (within obvious constraints) at all times. Provide an inventory of all athletic training room supplies annually as requested by the Athletic Director. Monitor usage of all supplies. Submit a list to the Athletic Director of supplies needed for the training room prior to the end of the school year. Monitor and report to the Athletic Director any issues regarding the safety of practice and game areas. Attend meetings and carry out other duties as requested by the Athletic Director. WORK YEAR The athletic trainer is expected to report one day before the first fall sport practice and end on the date of the last official MIAA playoff game each spring. All appropriate reports are due to the Athletic Director no later than two weeks after the date of the last MIAA playoff game of each sports season. WORK DAY On NHS school days when contests or official practices are scheduled, the trainer's workday begins one hour prior to the start of afternoon practices and ends at the conclusion of the last sports practice or contest on that day. A typical weekday schedule is 1:30 to 8:30 with no duty free breaks. Weekend, holiday and school vacation hours are determined by the athletic schedule. The athletic trainer will not be required to work on any school day; there are no official practices or contests scheduled. The athletic trainer will earn MIAA stipends on all playoff games where the MIAA allocates trainer monies. For Natick High School tournament games where there are games or contests from teams other than Natick High School, the trainer will earn an MIAA playoff rate on behalf of the school. When additional game coverage is necessitated by the athletic schedule and required by MIAA regulations the school will provide coverage. Any other relative duties as assigned.
