Human Factors Engineer Co-Op Bayer is looking for a human factors engineering co-op with well-rounded, technical skills and experience in the fields of medical devices, engineering (ideally in mechanical or biomedical), ergonomics/human factors, and user interface design and usability. The human factors engineering co-op will support other HFE leads on the team in the planning and execution of usability studies for simple and complex electro-mechanical and software devices. As a member of the Center of Excellence Human Factors Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to work on various products across multiple imaging modalities in the Bayer Radiology portfolio, where user interaction is a crucial element for the success of the products. You will work with cross-functional product development teams to collaborate and create customer-focused solutions that meet user needs. Ideal candidates have the capability to do 3 consecutive co-op terms (totaling 12 months), and are willing to travel approximately 10% of the time during their co-op (in the domestic US only). This role is based at the Bayer Indianola campus in Pittsburgh, PA. YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The primary responsibilities of this role are to: Support analysis of task workflows, use error assessments and detailed task analyses for use in product safety risk assessment; Understand how ergonomic aspects such as anthropometrics and user biomechanics and cognitive ergonomics might affect product/system usability, safety and user comfort and communicate accordingly to design teams.; Investigate and communicate applicable ergonomic data to support design teams in detailed product development and requirements definitions.; Follow a human factors engineering process as required by international and national regulatory bodies and design and conduct appropriate evaluations to validate that new medical devices and changes to currently fielded medical devices are safe and effective for use by intended users; Support HFE analyses of electro mechanical, disposables and graphic user interfaces; Support Senior Engineers with ergonomic, heuristic and simulated use evaluations and dry-runs with internal experts and external clinical customers on and off-site, document study findings, and communicate findings to development teams; Capture detailed observations and user feedback, translate feedback into usability objectives, prioritize user feedback, and assist the team in driving usability findings to resolution; Effectively present complex technical information to an audience of varied expertise/level for guidance, education and quick decision-making. Communicate recommendations and pro's/con's of graphic user interface concepts to optimize user experience and workflow; Coordinate participant recruitment efforts to support user evaluations. Co-ordinate shipping logistics associated with interactive meetings and evaluations with clinical customers on-site or at clinical sites, nationally and/or internationally. WHO YOU ARE Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: Working toward Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Industrial Engineering or related discipline; Working knowledge and proven skills of PC computer system including Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); Required, video editing software - Preferred.
