Summary: The coding quality specialist performs medical record coding and documentation reviews for emergency department, radiology, ambulatory surgery, observation, other outpatient and professional encounters; conducts coding education based on review findings; acts as the coding and documentation resource for coding staff, leadership and CHST providers; assists in developing action plans in response to identified coding and documentation issues; provides ongoing training to coders, leadership, providers and other organizational staff. Responsibilities: CODING QUALITY REVIEW: Performs emergency department, radiology, ambulatory surgery, observation, other outpatient and professional coding/billing reviews and any follow up reviews to assure appropriate and compliant coding and billing is maintained. Assists in developing and implementing appropriate work plan if necessary. Performs reviews based on the annual coding risk assessment. Performs supplementary coding/billing reviews as requested. Knowledgeable in coding and billing for both outpatient technical and clinician professional services. CODING EDUCATION: Performs initial coding and documentation training and orientation for new emergency department, radiology, ambulatory surgery, observation, other outpatient, professional coders and CHST providers. Provides coding training and coaching based on review results. Conducts coding and documentation training as requested by management, providers, or service line staff. Acts as coding and documentation resource for management, providers, and service line staff. POLICY AND PROCEDURE DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT: Assists in developing and revising policies and procedures for emergency department, radiology, ambulatory surgery, observation, other outpatient, and professional coding, documentation, and billing to assure compliance with state and federal coding, billing, and documentation regulatory requirements. Participates on committees and/or work groups as assigned. Requires ability to research requirements of and act upon billing requirements of multiple payers. How You'll Be Successful: Other information: WORK EXPERIENCE At least 3 years job related experience Req At least 2 years coding review and coding experience in a hospital setting Req EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent Req Two-year associate's degree or equivalent experience Pref Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Pref LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist - Professional (CCS-P) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) 180 Days Req Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) Pref A Place Where You Belong We put our people first.
