Overview 24 or 36 hours per week Nights 7p-7:30a, every other weekend, holiday rotation Minimum pay is $19.00 per hour Benefits Eligible About the CTICU: 20 Beds- 12 closed door rooms and 8 open bay rooms Nurse to Patient Ratios- 1:1 or 1:2 (High acuity- 2:1) Ages- Birth to late Adulthood Patient Population : Patients with Congenital Heart Defects, Acquired Heart Disease, Pre & Post-Surgical, Heart & Lung Transplants Babies are fed breast milk Many infants to toddlers who have had corrective surgeries There is a big focus on education for our nursing team members PCAs can also serve as sitters 1:1 Why Nationwide Children's Hospital? Responsibilities Performs clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary. Collects, documents, and reports vital signs such as: blood pressure or mean arterial pressure, heights, and weights. Completes screening questions and documents all items into medical record. Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing. Holds, positions patients and assists with procedures. Preps all materials and supplies as needed. Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism and ensures confidentiality of patient information. Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained. Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate. Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit. Acts as a preceptor of orientation and training of other PCA staff. Responsible for the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners. Qualifications Education : High school graduate or equivalent. Candidates must meet at least one of the followig requirements: - Active, State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) license - Nursing student who has successfully completed Fundamentals of Nursing (or equivalent) from an approved program - At least one year of patient care experience in a hospital within the last three years Certifications: Current BLS for healthcare provider required upon hire Skills: 1. Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. 2. Demonstrated basic computer skills. 3. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients. 4. Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Occasionally, 1-33% of the time: Climb stairs/ladder; sitting; lifting/carrying 41-60lbs, 61-100lbs, +100lbs with assistance. May come into contact with fumes, gases, vapors, biohazard waste, machinery, and power tools. - Frequently, 34-66% of the time: Squat/kneel; reaching above shoulder; repetitive arm and hand use. Lifting/carrying 040lbs; pushing/pulling 0-61lbs; depth perception-vision. May come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity. - Continuously, 67-100% of the time: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity and hearing acuity.
