We are looking for experienced Dental/Surgical Assistants! Must have experience with assisting oral surgery cases with or without general anesthesia. Limited positions available! ** ** ** ** JOB TITLE: DENTAL/SURGICAL ASSISTANT FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT REPORTS TO: DENTAL PRACTICE AREA MANAGER Position Summary Under direct supervision of the Dentist, the Dental / Surgical Assistant assists the dentist during surgery by performing a variety of surgical responsibilities including tray and surgical set-up; chairside assistance; infection control, documentation, and varying aspects of patient care. Supervision This position has no supervisory responsibility. Duties and Responsibilities BDG Teammates will support compliance-related items by: Following internal procedures and external regulations. Bringing compliance issues to the attention of management. Successfully completing regulatory training requirements periodically. Working collaboratively in all facets of position to meet position requirements and support Company goals. Consistently reports to work on time prepared to perform duties of position. The duties and responsibilities listed below are essential to the employee's position: Provides assistance to the dentist as doctors examine and treat patients in preparation for dental surgery and general dentistry with and without general anesthesia. Prepares and arranges needed tools and instruments for scheduled procedures. Hands instruments and materials to the Doctor and keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for surgical procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative instructions, take dental X rays/ CT SCAN. May take patient's medical history and taking blood pressure and pulse. Ensures patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment. May provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures. Participate in daily huddles, team meetings and training workshops, whether in-person or virtually. Other Responsibilities Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines with regards to patient's records. Conform with all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment. Performs all other related duties, as assigned. May be requested to assist with special projects from time to time. Minimum Qualifications (Industry, Work Experience and/or Education) High School Diploma (HSD). Previous experience (at least 1 year) as a dental assistant required. Phlebotomy helpful. ** Computer Skills** Previous practice management software preferred, Dentrix or Dentrix Enterprise Preferred. License, Registration, or Certifications Position may require travel within the METROPOLITAN AREA; thus, reliable transportation is required. If using a personal vehicle, must ensure has appropriate insurance coverage. CPR Certification Success Factors - Personal characteristics that contribute to an individual's ability to excel on the job (not a guarantee). Has a good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities and health and safety protocols. Ability to read and comprehend advanced instructions, operating manuals, correspondence, and memos. Should be patient-service driven. Position requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy along with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Sometimes, patients are in extreme pain and/or mental stress, so the dental assistant must be sensitive to their emotions. Should have a pleasant and personable demeanor. Requires an ability to work with equipment settings on a regular basis. Excellent follow-through skills. Strong attention to detail and well organized. Must have excellent verbal communication skills. Must be able to listen to patients, dentist, and hygienists; and follow directions. Is a self-starter and can work independently. Dependable and reliable. Maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to take dental x-rays. Other Regular attendance is required. Generally speaking, this position does not require additional hours or working weekends. At times, individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to manage and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate. Any overtime must be pre-approved by Supervisor. Schedules subject to change; and travel throughout the offices, including shifting schedules at the last minute for business needs. Out of country travel may be required, necessitating individual to have an unexpired passport. Physical Demands The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers; and reach with hands and arms. Employees must work in tight quarters on a small part of the body, passing precise tools and instruments. Often bending over in assisting the dentist or dental hygienist. Employee must be able to remain in work area for several hours at a time. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. It also requires manual dexterity in combination of eye / hand coordination. Work environment is subject to many interruptions, varying and unpredictable situations and time pressures related to multiple tasks. Work is normally performed inside. Work is normally performed inside. There is exposure to blood, chemicals, and cleaning supplies. OSHA Category Category I: Personnel who engage in activities normally with exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Dental assistants wear safety glasses, surgical masks, protective clothing, and gloves to protect themselves and patients from infectious diseases. They also must follow safety procedures to minimize risks associated with x-ray machines.
