Department: 60346 IL ACL Laboratories - IL Central Lab: Cytology Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hou rs Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: PM shift, start time is between 12-1pm. Major Responsibilities: Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Cytology department at assigned sites, as well as ACL transcription functions. Serves as an immediate resource for internal (hospital and Rapid Response Laboratories) and external (medical group clinics and outreach) clients as they pertain to cytotechnology and ACL transcription services. Serves as the primary communication link between the department and the leader. Ensures regulatory, accreditation, compliance, and proficiency standards are met for the laboratory department. Ensures compliance with current policies, procedures, and standardization and/or consolidation decisions. Ensures that daily, monthly, and annual operating indicators and volume reports are compiled and submitted. These include quality, quantity, turnaround time, downtime, productivity versus target and other indicators as needed. Coordinates the efficient and proper orientation and training of new staff. Provides and coordinates in-service training and competency testing for all departments/sites laboratory staff. Assists the leader in the development and implementation of laboratory policies, procedures, and site goals. Coordinates laboratory functions within the departments. Complies with the ACL Quality Plan by implementing and monitoring quality indicators. Reviews laboratory results for quality, accuracy, and validity. Documents and implements corrective actions as appropriate. Establishes, maintains, and reviews the preventative maintenance of all laboratory equipment and directs corrective action. Maintains current knowledge of the integrated computer systems as they relate to the laboratory. Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations. Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Cytotechnologist (CT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), PREFERRED Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), will be considered with required leadership experience. Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field. Experience Required: Typically requires 3 years of experience in a laboratory role in a Cytology environment with experience as a lead or senior level staff. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Leadership experience should include management of staff, budgets and multiple laboratory functions at the supervisor level. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to multitask many projects simultaneously.
