Job Description This position encompasses professional and/or supervisory work in the operation of an activity therapy department providing medical/psychiatric recreational therapeutic services, in conjunction with other members of the treatment team. Duties & Responsibilities Plans, organizes and implements Therapeutic Recreation programs based on the assessed need and interest of patient/resident on assigned units, reflective of culture, leisure history, current interest and present abilities/limitation. • Assesses the problems, needs and interests of every patient/resident and completes assessments on assigned units upon admission and annually. • Develops treatment plans for every patient/resident based on assessment. • Conducts age appropriate, Therapeutic Recreation programs on assigned units addressing needs and interest of patient/residents. • Documents patients/residents progress in charts on a quarterly basis or as needed in progress notes & care plans. • Develops, implements a monthly schedule of therapeutic and leisure programs on assigned units and centrally. • Submits monthly food, funding and other needs for unit trips, unit birthday parties etc. Coordinates and or assist in the planning and implementation of special events. • Attends departmental meetings and in services, may be asked to conduct training sessions. • Assists in the planning and implementation of special events, trips, unit birthday parties, etc. • Maintains monthly bulletin board and calendars reflecting available therapeutic and leisure activities. • Maintains and orders supplies and equipment necessary for TR programs. • Maintains and submits on a timely basis, program participation statistics for unit/central programs and special events. • Submits all required departmental request, e.g., video request, out trip referrals and requests, staff statistic forms, etc. on a timely basis. • Conducts recreation programs either on assigned units or centrally on a daily basis, including evenings and weekends. • May provide supervision and evaluation to Activity Therapists, Student 1ntems, or volunteers assigned to assist in their programs. • Participates in 1nterdisciplinary Care Plan meetings or Committee involving direct patient care, completing necessary documentation ex. MOS 2.0 OR CCP's etc. • May assist in Performance improvement Activities. • May be asked to contribute to the development of policies, procedures and protocols for the Department through committee work chaired by a Manager or Activity Therapist Ill. • Follow all facility P & P for safety management, pain management and infection control. • Participates in interdisciplinary Pl. • May supervise college for interns pursuing future credentials. • Follow facility policy regarding GroupWise e-mail account. Check account daily. Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 18 credits in recreation, physical education, dance, fine arts, applied arts (including therapy) and 12 credits in psychology, social psychology, group work, group dynamics and/or related field; OR 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience in planning, coordinating and supervising a recreation activities program in a hospital, health care or related facility; OR 3. Satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree. 4. Three years of full-time experience as described in two (2) above.
