As part of Verizon's Experience Design team, you'll have the chance to impact one of the largest consumer presences in America, supporting millions of daily customer interactions across an omnichannel ecosystem and a growing consumer product portfolio. With global offices and hybrid work environments, the team is assembling the brightest designers, design strategists, and product managers to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, shaping the future of the customer experience. The Product Design Team works to create new products and improve existing ones that impact the customer experience. The team partners with product owners to shape vision and experiences through designing, supporting, and enhancing digital and physical products (home connectivity, entertainment applications, and wearable accessories). As a Director of Experience Design, you will lead and manage teams to deliver best-in-class designs grounded in user, product, technology, and business requirements through collaboration with partners across the company. With deep expertise in design principles, you will provide strategic guidance as a foundation for teams to shape the end-to-end customer experience. Additionally, you are responsible for career growth and performance management for direct reports and contributing to the overall betterment of our design community. You will advocate for headcount, foster team culture, and shape recruiting processes. Thoroughly exploring, refining, and documenting the design solutions. Actively exploring user context, and engaging in target user activities when possible. Participating in insight-gathering activities (informal or formal, primary or secondary) and creating design solutions that leverage user insights. Actively researching competitive products, industry trends, and topics. Staying updated on Verizon's business, strategy, and organizational structure. Effectively designing solutions within Verizon's business context and revenue model. Maintaining a working knowledge of UI standards for common platforms (iOS, Android, Web). Working within Verizon's front-end and back-end technology constraints and capabilities. Giving and receiving constructive feedback. Actively identifying, escalating, and helping remove impediments keeping your team from being productive. Identifying the pros and cons of possible design approaches to assist with decision-making. Navigating sensitive tradeoffs with higher-level leadership. Making partners stronger by teaching design-led processes and best practices. Building relationships and facilitating meetings with Business Unit Owners and executive leadership. Advocating for the team and recommending approaches that allow designers to do work aligned with development goals and interests. Encouraging design community participation through group events/activities. Seeking opportunities to contribute thought leadership to the broader design community. Guiding teams in evolving internal processes and developing design solutions across Verizon's larger product and service ecosystem. Developing and expressing a point of view on Verizon's industry. Persuasively advocating for design within the wider Verizon organization. Leading your team by providing performance feedback, reviews, coaching, and direction. What we're looking for... You'll need to have: Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. Six or more years of relevant work experience. Six or more years of experience working in Digital Product Design. Experience leading a team. Experience with Agile software delivery environments. Experience with common design software (Figma, Adobe, etc.). Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time. Even better if you have one or more of the following: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design. Portfolio of professional work. 10 or more years of professional design experience. Contributed to multiple design programs or shipped products with a large user base. Experience working cross-functionally in Fortune 500 companies. Contributed to overall product success. Experience with consumer-facing digital design management in a leadership capacity. Experience building next-generation experiences at scale. Experience defining and driving the vision of experience programs and/or partnership-based programs. Where you'll be working In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager. For part-timers, your coverage will vary as you may be eligible for some of these benefits depending on your individual circumstances. If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $150,000.00 and $278,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
