Under the general supervision of the Practice Manager and Radiology Manager, is responsible for assisting the Physicians and other licensed medical providers with direct patient care and for conducting routine X-ray procedures, while treating patients in a respectful, confidential, and family-friendly manner. Position Function and Duties: EMR Utilization Functions and Quality: - Utilizes the current Electronic Health Record to complete the documented Best Practice Workflows accurately. - Documents and updates the patient's medical history within the EMR guidelines, including: vital signs, past medical history, social history, surgical history, family medical history - Completes the daily work list (order tracking, tasking, document import) providing timely care and response to the patients - Ensures timely reporting and charging of X rays. - Ensures all computed and digital images are properly archived on Synapse. - Scan all documents in a timely manner. - Push X-Ray images to other hospital per policy. - Burn CD's and enters tech notes into each exam completed. - Performs Physician Laboratory order review for completeness and medical necessity. - Performs electronic and or manual order entry and reviews any ABN's with patients. - Perform CLIA waived testing in accordance with regulations and department best practices as trained and deemed competent. - Maintains competency as required by CLIA regulations and Laboratory policy. - Participates in the Laboratory Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) policies and projects. Patient Access Functions/ Clinical Support Functions: - Accepts and returns patient calls under the supervision of the nurse or provider, using appropriate telephone etiquette. - Schedules appointments and completes orders for patients for appointments, procedures, tests, and/or consultations with other providers as requested by the provider - Prepares the examination room with needed supplies, instruments, and equipment and maintains room in a clean manner - Greets patients in a professional, friendly manner, escorting them to exam rooms. - Prepares/instructs/positions and drapes the patient. - Ensures the provider is on schedule being mindful of emergencies and unexpected interruptions - Obtains patient samples in accordance with regulations and best practice. - Performs appropriate sample processing based on requested tests including sample quality assessment, centrifugation, separation and proper storage as needed. - Prepares specimens and documentation for processing or transportation to processing facility. - Ensures proper sample labeling including two unique identifiers. Cares, cleans, and sterilizes equipment per instruction or established procedures. - Provides age appropriate instructions to patients for optimal specimen collection and sample. - Keeps drug closets clean and organized while ensuring that all medications are current and disposing of expired medications or sample medications per pharmacy procedures. - Disposes of used supplies properly and follows all established infection control and biohazard policies and procedures. - Calls orders to pharmacies for medications under the direction and supervision of the provider. - Completes and processes HMO referrals, pre-certifications or pre-approvals as needed. - Confirm all patient identity with two identifiers. Radiology: - Operates all fixed radiographic equipment according to specifications and policies. - Performs all traumas according to the policies. - Performs X-rays in accordance with all safety regulations. - Uses appropriate shielding at all times. - Address any safety concerns immediately to the Manager of Medical Imaging. - Properly clean and store lead irons according to protocol Clinical Direct Functions: - Documents patient's chief complaint, medical history and completes pertinent forms - Performs phlebotomy and venipuncture in accordance with regulation and best practices - Performs capillary blood collection in accordance with regulations and best practices - Performs venipuncture and capillary collections utilizing age appropriate technique - Performs EKGs, PFTs, rapid strep, pregnancy tests and other tests that may be ordered by the provider. - Assists in minor procedures such as pap smear, suturing, dressing changes, catheterizations and casting. Practices aseptic and sterile techniques as needed. - Prepares and administers medications as directed by a provider and in accordance with license. - Provide the patient with educational materials as requested by the provider. Instruct patients about medications diet and exercise. - Keeps drug closets clean and organized while ensuring that all medications are current and disposing of expired medications or sample medications per pharmacy procedures. Safety: Practices workplace safety daily Employee Engagement Actively participates in all hospital Service Excellence initiatives and trainings Attends and participates in a minimum of 50% department staff meetings and signs off on review of 100% department staff meeting minutes Completes all required annual education on or before the due date Job License and Certification: Must be Registered with the ARRT. RT required. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required Must be registered with the New Hampshire Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Knowledge Skills and Abilities : Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to safely perform the essential functions of the job - Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers - Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress - Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word - Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication - Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner - Familiarity with computer and other business machine Qualifications Education: Graduate from an A.M.A. approved school of Radiologic Technology is required. Graduate of approved Medical Assistant Program is preferred and/or graduate of an accredited school of Phlebotomy. Experience: One to two years X-Ray experience preferred, clinical rotations will be considered
