Description TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Systems Engineer position supporting Model Based Systems Engineering for the Condition Based Monitoring + Enterprise Solutions of shipboard machinery plants . This position will work with acquisition program managers, technical specialists, (SMEs) subject matter experts, and engineers in supporting a multiple ship program at NSWCPD. This position will develop prototype digital models of ship systems, address design tradeoffs and integration challenges, and support validation and verification of requirements. This position will require experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods and understanding of software such as MATLAB, Simulink, Cameo System Modeler or SysML. Principal Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Understand and help develop models of ship for power generation, power distribution, control systems, damage control, firefighting, auxiliary machinery, propulsion systems, navigational, steering, fluid storage & transfer systems such as for lube/fuel/oil/water, and combat systems based on preliminary design, available data, and research 2. Help develop systems based on preliminary design, available data, and research 3. Define, track, and validate requirements of ship systems, interfaces, and subsystems 4. Architect hierarchy of models 5. Create structural and interface models 6. Design a physical model of machinery systems for use in creation of Land Based Test and Engineering Sites 7. Develop model data tools to capture model metadata, model test case data, and model test results in a standardized MBSE construct 8. Adapt model data tools to capture physical testing metadata, physical test case data, and physical test results 9. Track requirements and project deliverables, coordinate schedules, and support acquisition program objectives Requirements Education and Experience Requirements: 1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university 2. Master's degree in engineering is preferred in lieu of industry experience less than 7 years 3. 4 or more years of experience in engineering & design 4. 2 or more years of experience with Model Based Systems Engineering 5. 5 years of experience in machine learning algorithms. Experience should include working with data for industrial or maritime control systems. 6. Strong aptitude for problem solving and working with large data sets and implementing machine learning models. 7. 5 years' experience should include functional programming and performing comparative data analysis to assess algorithms performance. 8. Proficient in software development and analysis using MATLAB/Simulink, CAMEO, SysML or similar tools. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance. 2. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Essential Skills: Experience developing and maintaining models of complex electrical and mechanical systems Familiarity in SysML modeling software or model-based engineering concepts Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customers Ability to communicate complex analysis with clarity and precision Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Strong written and verbal communication skills Shipboard or industrial experience with machinery system installation, operational testing, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred Knowledge of Agile Project Management Experience with the system engineering life cycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and deployment Desired Skills / Certifications: OMG SysML Model Builder Fundamental certification is a plus. Model Builder Intermediate preferred. Advanced degree or certificate in System Engineering -OR- INCOSE ASEP or higher is a plus. US Navy HM&E experience US Navy HM&E experience or industry experience in power generation, power distribution, control systems, ventilation systems, damage control, firefighting, auxiliary machinery, propulsion systems, navigational, steering, fluid storage & transfer systems such as for lube/fuel/oil/water, and combat system is a plus Travel: This position may require occasional travel, estimated to be 5-10%.
