We are currently seeking a Senior Roadway Project Engineer/Practice Lead to join our team in our Raleigh, NC office. This position will be instrumental in leading our roadway design group in the Raleigh Office and will work with a multi-disciplinary team developing roadway design services and coordinating all design discipline teams in development of construction contract plans and documents in support of transportation projects for federal, NCDOT, other State DOT agencies, and Municipal Localities. Responsibilities: The Senior Roadway Project Engineer/Practice Lead will be an integral part of the NC office as a member of the Key leadership team. Candidate will be responsible for leading design teams and managing projects commensurate to experience. This position is also expected to be an integral member of overall office management team assisting in the planning and implementation of NC and regional growth management strategies including pursuit decisions and proposal preparation assistance. The primary duties will be to manage and lead multiple roadway design teams and projects including coordination of all design disciplines in development of final construction documents for advertisement and let. Individual will be responsible for development of project scopes and developing manhour and fee estimates. Responsibilities will also include assuring highest quality and deliverable expectations are always maintained. Individual must not only be able to lead and manage roadway design efforts but also is expected to be fully competent in the design of roadway alignments, quality control/quality assurance of contract documents, 3D surfaces models, feasibility studies conceptual designs, preliminary design alternatives development for NEPA/SEPA Environmental Documentation, cross sections, and the final design contract documents preparation for construction plans, specifications, special provisions, cost estimates and any required technical reports. Individual will be responsible for mentoring and training younger staff, work planning and /production scheduling, growth visioning, managing project budgets, scopes, schedules, and clients. Individual will participate in the planning and design of transportation related projects and must be innovative and adaptive at identifying problems and finding solutions. Requirements: BS degree in Civil Engineering/Civil Engineering - Construction 20+ years of experience, desired in the roadway engineering discipline. Will consider less years' experience for significant relevant experience Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in North Carolina Experience with NCDOT Design-Did-Build, Design-Build and/or CMGC projects Rural/Urban roadway design experience from full multi-modal local, secondary, and primary non-controlled facilities to full controlled access interstate corridors including interchange design experience NCDOT Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) experience Experience with design software tools including MicroStation, In-Roads and GEOPAK is required Development of complete contract advertisement documents including plans, engineers estimate, bid quantities and contract standard specifications and project special provisions Business Development and experience communicating and coordinating with clients Ability to develop and manage scope, manhour and fee estimates, schedules Experience mentoring, training, and managing staff Ability to effectively communicate orally/written at all levels of the organization Ability to work independently and as part of a team with multiple office work share Ability to manage and lead multiple projects, assignments, and teams Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively as a team leader and team player Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Desired Requirements: OpenRoads Designer (ORD) experience/training a strong plus PPP and Progressive Design-Build procurement experience a plus SC, GA, WV, and/or VA Design-Build experience a plus VA, MD, WV, SC, GA, FL, TX, DE and/or PA experience is a plus Experience in General Engineering Services Consultant (GESC) role a plus Construction phase engineering services experience with RFI's, schedules, pay request documentation and monitoring, field verifications of design a plus Benefits: WRA recognizes that employees play an important role in its success.
