Tenants & Neighbors is a dynamic grassroots organization that harnesses tenant power to preserve at-risk affordable housing in neighborhoods throughout New York State, and to strengthen tenants' rights at the local, state, and national level. Through tenant organizing, education, leadership development, and grassroots mobilization, Tenants & Neighbors is building a strong and unified tenant movement that has the knowledge and power to effect real change. We are currently looking for people who are committed to affordable housing and tenants' rights to stand for election/ appointment to our Board of Directors. Our Board of Directors includes both elected and appointed Directors. Elected Directors are voted into office by the members at the Annual General Membership Meeting, which is held in the fall, and they serve two year terms. Appointed Directors are appointed by the elected Directors at a meeting subsequent to the Membership meeting, and they serve one-year terms. Selection of the appointed Directors is undertaken with particular intent to meet the organization's principles of inclusion, balance, and representation. Board members can generally expect to contribute at least 6-8 hours per month to the organization and are welcome to make a much greater time commitment. They participate in bi-monthly Board meetings, serve on committees, raise funds, attend events and lobby days, and advise the Executive Director on issues that relate to their areas of expertise, among other responsibilities. Board members may also choose to stand for election to our affiliate organization, the New York State Tenants & Neighbors Information Service. We are looking for people who have expertise in one or more of the following areas: • Non-profit governance and management; • Fundraising; • Financial administration; • PR and marketing; • Human resources; • Membership recruitment and member services; and • Informational technology
