About the RoleThe Avenues Athletics Department is a group of committed coaches who develop, plan and implement our growing sports curriculum. We pride ourselves in creating programs within each sport discipline, where Middle and Upper School coaches work closely together to ensure we cover the necessary skills and fulfill the needs of our student athletes.The role of an Avenues coach is to instruct our student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must provide a foundation for integrity, pride of accomplishment, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork and self-confidence.Varsity Fencing: November 4th through February 23rdAssistant Coaches will (but not limited to): Support head coach in promoting the mission of the programContribute to andor run practice sessionsGather and record statistical informationAttend all scheduled games and practicesAttend all necessary athletic and school meetings and eventsAbout YouCoaches bring all or most of the following:Assistant coaches have 1+ years of fencing coaching or related experienceExcellent communication skills (verbal and written)Strong organizational skillsAbility to work well with student athletes, parents, facultystaff and the athletics departmentCurrent First AidCPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commencesAre up to date with COVID vaccinates and boostersKnowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age categoryEnthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential to this positionAbility to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic missionHigh-level competitive playing experience (preferred)Additional InformationPractice and Game Schedule:Practices are 1.5 hours and meets are up to 2 hours, not including travel time. Varsity roles meet 4x a week and Middle School 3x a week. On meet days, athletes sometimes leave between 2:15pm - 3:00pm for, so candidates should be available at this time to travel to away games with the team. Home meets are 4:30pmThe practice schedule is as consistent as it can be for each team. They are 1.5 hours and are slotted between 4-6pm Monday, Tuesday & Thursday and 2:45-5pm (only on Wednesdays)Salary:Please note that this is a part time and seasonal position averaging 4.5-10 hours a week. Coach pay rates range from $60-$100 per hour, depending on coach level (assistant vs. head) and experience.
