This Opportunity WSP, an award winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for a CFD Analyst for the Built Ecology team in New York, NY, other locations considered. Our team works closely with organizations, owners, developers, architects, and tenants from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability, health, resilience, user experience, and operational efficiency in the built environment. Built Ecology is WSP's national Built Environment Sustainability practice, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy and planning, target-setting and workshop facilitation, high-performance design assistance, computational building performance analysis, building certifications, energy and GHG master planning, and building performance verification. We work across a wide range of project types and scales, from master planning and district infrastructure to building design and construction, to ongoing performance and operations. Built Ecology has been directly responsible for driving many leading projects across the globe, including LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, Net Zero energy and water projects, EcoDistricts, corporate programs, and improvements for large building portfolios. Ideal candidates will exhibit the following characteristics: Passionate about learning new skills and technologies Driven to create solutions that deliver ambitious high-performance design outcomes Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics and heat transfer Background in sustainability, building design, and high-performance design analytics Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication Your Impact Utilize CFD tools to solve physics-based problems related to indoor and outdoor building flows, thermal comfort, contaminant dispersion and condensation controls Improve existing analytical capabilities by developing and improving best practices, automating processes, and streamlining workflows Maintain working knowledge of relevant computational fluids research in the building mechanical field with proactive research Documentation, reporting, and making technical presentations of engineering solutions to design teams and clients Work independently while communicating and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and project managers Write reports detailing analysis activities and design advice Liaise internally to facilitate the achievement of project sustainability objectives Review building documentation for the integration of high-performance design aspects Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on thermal-fluid sciences. Other engineering and science degrees may be considered on a case-by-case basis. 1-3 years' of relevant work experience. Knowledgeable on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Advance Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Building Mechanical Systems Knowledge of mechanical system architecture and components Ability to perform quality work within deadlines Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on thermal-fluid sciences. Demonstrated experience in understanding and using CFD analysis software (STAR CCM+, Fluent, FDS, OpenFOAM, FLOEFD, Tileflow, 6SigmaRoom) Familiarity with software development for writing User Defined Functions (UDF) for commercial software. Knowledge of mechanical systems and building physics for data centers, hospitals, laboratories, commercial buildings, and battery energy storage systems Familiarity with ASHRAE Standards, including ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, 62.2 and 55 Experience in programming and scripting platforms such as Python, C++, and Java Critical thinking and problem-solving, planning & organizing skills, decision making and time management skills Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to clearly communicate research findings through presentations and reports Strong drive for results and continuous improvement WSP Benefits WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee's career. Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $76,800 - $103,000 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
