Job DetailsJob LocationMain Office (MO - 222 MOB) - Nashville, TNPosition TypeSeasonalJob ShiftDayJob CategoryHealth CareDescriptionSUMMARY: This position provides professional medical assistant care; assists the physician with patient care typically in the back office (clinical area); assists other staff as needed; assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care rendered to patients with routine, urgent, or potential health problems.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.MA/Scheduler Duties:Ensure patient safetyAssists physicians and ensure maximum efficiency; set up for procedures and examinations; obtain lab test and other reports for physician review.Triage patients to ensure productive departmental flow.Prepare patients for exams and procedures.Administer medications as appropriate; document in patient's chart.Ensure that patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner; forward chart as pharmacy to order or refill prescriptions as instructed by physician, document of all diagnostic studies to ensure results received and patient informed of resultsTracking of all initial specialist office visit appointments to ensure patient keeps appointmentObtain (in advance) pre-certifications, PA's and referrals when mandated by insurance companyMaintain adequate stock levels of medications and supplies.Set up and stock exam rooms for daily use; keep rooms and equipment clean between procedures; keep cleaning schedules up to dateFollow clinic policies for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious/hazardous waste physician informed of patient's status and any pending test resultsObtain vital signs, ascertain the seriousness of the patient's complaint and begin appropriate measures.Administer medications-IM, SQ and intradermal injectionsAdminister O2 when ordered by a physicianAdhere to Quality Control Guidelines; monitoring medication refrigerator temperature, eye wash checklist, O2 checklist, AED checklist and autoclave checklist.Adhere to Customer Service StandardsKnowledge of sterile techniques and sterilization process.Perform other tasks as needed, in assistance of physicianCheck for accuracy of insurance status, eligibility, account information, and all vital encounter forms for next business day.Label paperwork with MRC/chart number for physician review; organize paperwork and send to scanning.Open mail; pull documents from fax machine and route a clean and orderly work area.Review Phone Tree reports and conduct appointment reminder calls as appropriateMust have predictable and consistent attendanceSECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESRecord health history of patients; note abnormal conditions for physicianCollect, label and document lab specimens as neededComplete charts and charge tickets; review and verify codes for physician chargesSchedule patients with physician and other specialty physiciansProvide discharge instructions and reinforce physician's instructionsPrepare patient for procedures and obtain necessary consent formsCollect, label, document and track lab/ biopsy specimensContact patient of test results, schedule surgery and referrals as requiredKnowledge of surgical instruments sorting/ cleaning /sterilizationSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
