Job Summary: The Endodontist is responsible for diagnosing and treating dental issues related to the pulp and root structures of teeth. This includes performing root canal treatments, apicoectomies, and other specialized procedures to save teeth and relieve pain. The Endodontist works closely with general dentists, oral surgeons, and other dental professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients. Essential Functions: Conducts thorough clinical examinations and interprets radiographs to diagnose dental issues, focusing particularly on the pulp and surrounding tissues. Performs root canal therapy, including complex cases, and other endodontic treatments like apicoectomy and treating dental trauma. Diagnoses and treats tissue and nerve issues through root canal therapy and other methods. Performs pulp treatment including but not limited to pulpotomy, pulpectomy, and pulp regeneration. Uses local anesthesia to ensure patient comfort during endodontic procedures. Addresses dental emergencies, focusing on pain relief and saving teeth through endodontic treatments. Works in collaboration with other dental specialists for comprehensive patient care, particularly in cases requiring advanced endodontic treatments. Keeps abreast of the latest developments in endodontics, adheres to relevant regulations, and follows best practices in infection control and safety. Actively participates in continuing education, research, and quality improvement activities within the field of endodontics. Involves in meetings and represents the dental practice or organization as needed, focusing on endodontic expertise. Efficiently documents treatments and patient interactions in EHR for accurate billing, referrals, and maintaining patient records. Adheres to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality. Undertakes other related responsibilities, focusing on endodontic care and patient wellbeing. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The supervisor provides administrative direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined goals or functions. COMPLEXITY: The work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods that are applied to a broad range of activities or substantial depth of analysis, typically for an administrative or professional field. Decisions regarding what needs to be done include major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation and evaluation processes that result from such elements as continuing changes in program, technological developments, unknown phenomena, or conflicting requirements. The work requires originating new techniques, establishing criteria, or developing new information. PERSONAL CONTACTS: The personal contacts are with individuals or groups from outside the organization in a moderately unstructured setting. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This is a non-supervisory position that may provide functional direction, guidance and instruction to other employees when necessary. This position possess authority to assign, coordinate, and review quality and quantity of work of other employees. Instructs employees in specific techniques or technical methods for accomplishing work assignments. The employee may perform the same type of work as other employees, but may be responsible for performance of the more technically difficult, controversial, or sensitive work assigned to the unit or group. Direct Reports: None MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Dental Medicine (DMD) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA) or other dental school. Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in any U.S. State or Territory. Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment. The GPTLHB is a tribal organization that follows tribal preference laws.
