Job Title: Principal Transmission Planning Engineer Location: Orange, CT; Rochester, NY, Augusta, ME Office Salary: The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $135k to 150k Relocation: Available Sign on bonus: Available Job Summary: Avangrid is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Transmission Planning Engineer to join our dynamic team in identifying and developing transmission system investments that will modernize the electric grid and support the ongoing clean energy transition. As Principal Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include leading and performing highly technical power system studies including modeling, simulations, and analyses to address system needs and support the company's strategic vision. Specific responsibilities include: Utilize expert technical capabilities to identify strategic solutions to novel and emerging grid challenges and compliance obligations. Use of excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of management to inform and influence others, providing strategic input for business plans and decision making. Serves as a witness on regulatory and technical issues to advance business objectives (ISO's, siting council, PUC's, etc.). Represent Avangrid in national and regional forums. Actively develop and train team members on a wide range of power systems topics. Collaborate, perform, and lead power system studies (steady-state, stability, short-circuit, transfer limit, PV/QC, etc.) using industry-standard software tools such as PSS/E, ASPEN, and TARA. Take a leadership role in the scoping, performance, and quality assurance of technical studies performed by a team of engineers. Be accountable for the results of the studies and ensure accountability of the team. Analyze and assess complex transmission systems at numerous voltage levels. Clearly document and communicate results and recommendations, as appropriate, including data representation, report writing, and developing/delivering presentations. Seek out and develop subject matter expertise on a diverse range of topics. Mentor and support the team to aid in the advancement of business needs. Take initiative to identify opportunities for process improvement and drive change. Document best practices to encourage consistency and ensure knowledge transfer. Assists during storm restoration as assigned. Q ualifications: E ducation: Bachelor's Degree Ex perience: 10 Years (minimum) Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, is required. Additional consideration given to applicants with an advanced degree and / or professional certifications. Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of industry experience related to the planning or operation of transmission and distribution power systems. Technical Skills and Requirements: The following skills and associated competency levels are desired of candidates seeking a position in Transmission Planning. However, applicable industry and other relevant technical skills will be considered for candidates without previous direct utility and/or system planning experience. Technical Skills/Competencies Communicating/Influencing & Engineering Documentation: Understanding and conveying ideas clearly and convincingly. Includes Written, Verbal, Presentation Development. Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation, review and approve engineering work done by others. Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge: Expert understanding of Local, State, Regional, and Federal regulatory standards, processes, and requirements. Ability to comprehend regulatory processes/requirements and formulate an action plan to achieve results and ensure compliance. Software Proficiency: Advanced capability with steady state power system modeling and simulation software (e.g., TARA, PSS/E, PowerWorld, PSLF, etc.). Additional consideration given to experience with a dynamic stability, short circuit, PV/QV, transfer limit analyses and software. Team Management: Ability to lead, and be accountable for, internal and external (consulting) staff toward a common goal. Includes the ability to organize, schedule, and lead a team toward the successful completion of commitments. Project Development: Understanding of the various considerations that relate to the scoping and development of preliminary project proposals.
