Job Overview Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a full time Cast Tech in our Outpatient Department. The schedule would be Monday - Friday, no holidays/weekends. Philadelphia 49-bed inpatient facility with an outpatient clinic and walk-in fracture clinic located in North Philadelphia Outreach clinics in Doylestown, PA and San Juan, Puerto Rico Joint Commission accredited Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence award winner for Inpatient Pediatric Patient Experience (2023) Specialties: Orthopedics, Spine/Spinal Cord, Sports Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Craniofacial, Rheumatology, Pediatric Rehabilitation/Therapy, Urology Partnerships with Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Drexel University, and the University of Pennsylvania Responsibilities The cast technician is responsible for assisting the providers and staff with application, maintenance and removal of casts, and other splint and devices as ordered. The cast technician provides instruction to patients and families on how to properly care for the cast. Assists providers and other members of the healthcare team coordinating examinations, treatment and healthcare planning for patients/families. DELIVERY OF CARE • Introduces self to patients and families. • Prepares patients for cast application or removal. • Provides developmentally appropriate explanations to the patients and families before, during and after all casting procedures. • Provides appropriate cast care instructions to patients and families at casting visits. • Complies with infection prevention processes, particularly in room preparation and cleaning of patient equipment. • Provides assistance to the healthcare team as necessary. CLINIC PREPARATION • Prepares cast rooms daily ensuring each room is adequately stocked. • Cleans and preps cast rooms following each patient. • Ensures proper disposal of casting materials. • Maintains an accurate inventory of supplies. Qualifications Job Requirements Certified Clinical Medical Assistant required Orthopedic Cast Technician program/training preferred One year of experience as Orthopedic Technician, OR one year of related work experience.
