ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Interprets and enters physicians orders in computer Fills medication orders, aseptically compounds IV solutions and cytotoxic agents Accurately sets and checks medication cassettes. Monitors drug therapy for contraindications, incompatibilities interactions, and dosing errors including those indicative of specific age groups, Contacts medical and nursing personnel as appropriate; Provides drug information to medical and nursing personnel as required; Issues control-led substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law and hospital policy. Performs inventories of CDS as required by pharmacy procedures. Participates in the Quality Improvement activities of the department. Such as, but not limited to: A. Performs drug usage evaluation. B. Monitors suspected adverse drug reactions. C. Documents technician filling errors and dispensing errors. Exercise the profession of pharmacy. Projects a professional image, maintains level of competency. Complies with all applicable hospital policies, procedures and standards. Assists in the orientation and training of new pharmacists, technicians and other support personnel. Monitors and supervises the activities of technicians and other support personnel; Presents inservice education programs for physicians, nurses pharmacy staff and the community as required. Participates in the publishing of the pharmacy newsletter. Counsels patients on the proper use, side effects, precautions and storage of medication as required. Participates in inventory control as required (ordering, inventory maintenance and monitoring usage). Accurately performs monthly nursing unit inspections; attends and participates in programs, committees, and meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director. EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Currently licensed to practice Pharmacy in the State of New Jersey or eligible for licensure by examination or reciprocity. An ASHP residency or equivalent hospital pharmacy work experience is preferred. Pharmacy computer experience is desirable. Ability to logically and independently plan and organize work assignments. Interpersonal skills must be well developed. Should possess the initiative and ability to set and achieve high standards of performance. Ability to make progress on multiple assignments under time constraints. Must possess analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision making skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally, and in writing. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers in order to utilize tools, utensils, equipment, etc. Ability to visually perceive depth, distance, quality of work, read material, view documents, etc. Ability to hear inquiries from patients, physicians, clients, or staff. Ability to move heavy objects up to 20 lbs. in a timely manner. May be exposed to dangerous toxins or waste materials.
