JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Materials Processing Division of Applied Research Lab (ARL) is looking for several highly motivated undergraduate students to assist with various activities in the Materials Processing Division. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. Typical duties for a broad range of programs involving cold spray, sputtering, chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor deposition, hot pressing, plating, and microelectronics fabrication, may include: material synthesis processing characterization device fabrication process simulation for fabrication development of advanced materials and material systems Potential material systems include: ceramic metallic semiconductors mixed combination for corrosion resistance, wear resistance, erosion resistance, thermal protection, or optical performance. Other activities include: Development of finite element models Set up and monitor experimental designs Compile and analyze data for a wide range of materials and coatings. Materials and coatings could be comprised of nanocomposite, nanolayered, multilayered, functionally graded, and multifunctional material systems. These systems are primarily used for property enhancement and performance for a variety of applications in the aerospace, defense, tooling, biomedical, nuclear, microelectronic and optical industries. Students Majoring in the following are encouraged to apply : Materials Science and Engineering (MATSE) Mechanical Engineering Engineering Science Aerospace Engineering Nuclear Engineering The successful candidates will work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer. This is a paid internship located at ARL's Innovation Park location (230 building); relocation and housing are not provided. Candidate selected may be subject to a government security investigation.
