Salary : $31,200.00 Annually Location : Tyler, TX Job Type: Part-Time Job Number: 00490 Department: Animal Control Opening Date: 07/22/2024 Summary/Objective This position is responsible for providing care for sheltered animals, treating them with kindness and respect, and socializing the animals in order to make them more adoptable. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for sheltered animals. The Kennel Technician should enjoy working with dogs. Duties and Responsibilities Cleans and maintains kennels and animal living areas on a daily basis. Cleans other shelter areas. Sweeps, take out garbage, washes windows, etc. Cleans and maintains shelter equipment, i.e. carriers, leashes, brushes, etc. Washes food and water bowls, and puts them away in an orderly fashion. Provides each animal with food and water following approved feeding protocols. Follows proper safety measures and procedures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies. Helps with washing, drying and folding of laundry. Helps maintain a clean and organized shelter. Informs the Animal Shelter Coordinator of any health issues with the animals. Will administer vaccines and medications. Bath dogs as needed for cleanliness and medications. Responsible for all other duties as assigned by the Animal Shelter Coordinator. Required Skills and Abilities Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Humanely handle animals under various circumstances. Work harmoniously with other employees. Must be punctual, reliable and responsible. Education and Experience High School diploma or GED. Physical Demands and Work Environment Daily standing for long periods, walking, squatting, bending, pulling and reaching. Must be able to lift, move or carry animals or objects weight up to 100 pounds, and use strong chemicals for disinfecting kennels. Majority of work will take place in an indoor environment with exposure to continuous elevated noise levels and strong odors. DEFERRED COMPENSATION A payroll deduction savings plan which allows employees to contribute a portion of their salary before Federal taxes - to invest in a tax-favored supplemental retirement program. RETIREMENT Employees are eligible to retire: after 20 years of service regardless of age, at age 60 with at least 8 years of service or when age plus service equals 75 (with a minimum of 4 years of service).
